Oooh - have fun! There's a big difference, we found, in accom standards & costs! Whatever, it's the one which your offspring likes the course/ feel of surroundings which is most important :)

Much as we enjoyed it, we also spent quite a lot on it - occasional overnights in a hotel if far away (Newcastle, Leeds), petrol, bridge tolls, parking, food etc - it added up to quite a decent amount :(

I agree with greent about the standards of accommodation.

DS always knew he was going to Leicester as he had been there for Space School when he was a teenager and knew they had one of the best Physics departments so we only had to look at accommodation.

My one stipulation was that he had to have his own toilet and shower - some of the cheaper accommodation had up to 10 people sharing a toilet and shower room. I know that the chances of it being cleaned regularly were slim to none so we opted for the mid-range accommodation where they got a decent size bedroom/study area, ensuite bathroom with toilet. There were 6 people on his landing which is just enough I think to share a quite large kitchen/dining area.

  • Gosh - uni. Seems so grown up doesn't it? I'm off to a college open evening next week for DS - even that seems a bit unreal let alone uni!

Thanks everyone for your comments. She is determined to take a gap year - a rest from exams and study and instead work and travel. I also think she has nothing to compare with so am looking forward to her seeing a few more this month.

It will be a pricey month. I am away with the girls and a dear friend and her kids over Half Term and we have these uni trips to fund. But all paid for except the food, excursions etc for the trip. I will put together a budget for that this week and stick to that. I do have about €100 in change which should help. We are going to Amsterdam :)

Slow but steady on the MSE front. I have been working hard so no time to be spending money ;) and OH has been amazing with creating fancy meals from the stores. Stuffed butternut squash and winter veg last night. Also got a decent slug of OT so it all helps :D

Hope everyone well, will catch up soon and breathe...

All sounds very busy with work Brizzle, Amsterdam trip sounds fun :) and something to look forward to.
Hope the uni trips go well. - I managed to get away with not doing them until after offers came through as DD had strong ideas of where she didn't want to be!
    Have a lovely weekend :)
