Oooh - what is DD planning to do during her gap year? - DS1 may end up having one (medicine is a challenge to get into - and his interview/ social skills are not very good so he may fare better with a year off 'out in the world') - OH is thinking VSO opportunities (ICS for 18-35yo) - DS1 would need to fundraise min £800 towards the cost (would be away for around 12 weeks) I'm also thinking he could do some work in a care home/ home-care firm (seems more relevant to medicine than retail :D) - and would build up some cash to help fund his time at uni :)

Have a fab time in Amsterdam :)

Sorry for being MIA..RL has been busy!!

Thanks all for the good wishes.

MSEdom is OK, working hard which improves income but having to spend to replace items too which means there is a lot of money flowing out. But cooker replacement after 15 years is hardly extravagant in my book, particularly as it was broken!

Have gathered up all the spare euros in the house in anticipation :)

DD wants to work for 6 months and then travel to places like Iceland and Australia..expensive so she’ll need to work hard. She already volunteers at a type of food bank, but agree for DS working in a care home is a good idea. Can he get hospital/GP practice work experience at all? It’s a big decision and a pretty brutal life (close family member is a consultant in a large acute hospital so know all about it) Drop out rates during training/post uni are high but if it’s for him it’s for him. Family member couldn’t imagine doing anything else....

I think you are deserving of a new cooker after fifteen years brizzle. :)

    Thanks SSG..I totally agree :D

Its so hot (and gets that way so quickly) its bonkers. Keep almost burning things as I get used to the oven :)

Phew...holidays have begun. Feeling very grateful for the rest. Just wish I had a clearer idea re the tax bills, but accountant is now away too so just waiting :( But it'll be what it will be, so I need to be more accepting (which funnily enough I find hard, not one of my strong suites :rotfl:)

    Today I will:

    - freeze the LO cottage pie which I made yesterday - kids loved it (we went out with friends for amazing pizza)
    - [STRIKE]finish off some paperwork[/STRIKE]
    - pack for trip away and check kids have done same, (have managed to book some tickets online which will save queuing/stress as one place is so popular that tickets are not usually available, we grabbed some which they must have put on sale late last night- lady luck was with us as they werent there a few hours before..) IN PROGRESS Phew. Just remembered the Rail discount card for the trip home...thatd have been a pain without it
    - salute the fact that OH has had a small payrise, (public sector so he's done well)
    - sort out some 'microwave' meals for the lodger over the weekend
    - [STRIKE]tweak/assess YNAB[/STRIKE]
    - do another TT towards the final card. Hope it will be gone completely next month but we shall see.. DONE
    - sort out a present for my aunt and mum to say thank you for recent short breaks which they have managed/paid for/sorted

Hope everyone has a good day

Thanks Beanie.. I like a challenge ;)?although all doable really just 'done' one more task as meals set to defrost for lodger. I used the LO cottage pie for one and the other is YS chicken kievs and bits from the freezer. He should be happy with that.

Off for a run and maybe an exercise class.. will see if I collapse (or not!)

List on Friday all done plus a short run and an exercise class...go me!! :D

Quiet weekend. Still chilling at our Premier Inn after the uni open day yesterday. DD1 still unsure about anywhere. Likes bits of them all. Maybe she was right to insist on not applying this year, needs time to reflect.

Just also seen the DoE Gold expedition details. Blimey. Hard work. That, paid work and her 3 A levels....she’s not exactly slacking.

On MSE front had 2 evening meals out in a row, so speedy but lovely treasured times. Also booked 2 activities for our Christmas trip. Both will be AMAZING and involve very close experiences with marine mammals.. :D Why we work hard I guess. Still on track for paying off cards, but it will be tight. The 0% deal comes to an end (in 2 tranches) in November and December so must be gone by then. The great loft clear out planned for next week may help raise some funds too. I am way off the £750 goal for 2017

Will keep you posted. Have a great weekend all

PS presents are bare root roses and some tulip bulbs. They’ll love it and very inexpensive. Recommended if sourced from a good nursery

So agree if DD not sure to hold off for a year.
My DS went to college first and looking back I am so glad as if he had gone to uni first I think he would have dropped out.
