Attempting to speed my comp up following closed's thread - help maybe needed!

Siemens. My ex has all the back up CD's. He was Mr Techno hence my steep learning curve now. I've got away with doing not a lot upto now though. He has been promising to bring them round but still waiting. Just thought I may be able to do some tweaking to speed things up a bit but atm it's worse!

Many of the files listed don't appear as such in the add/remove programmes and I daren't remove anything I'm not sure of so prob haven't done as much as was suggested.

I'd actually removed it now before reading your post expresso. I'm doing my best even if it doesn't appear so! It's pretty much gobbledgook to me - easy when you know how. I struggle with the abbreviations.

It's a shame I can't copy and paste the list of my add/remove programmes. I'm currently googling the ones listed as rarely used and removing some that way. Most of the stuff on my comp is left from my ex, I'm just not sure what may be needed to run in the background hence my caution.

No but I can always update it can't I! I'm doing my best here. If I find some more programmes I don't think I need I can remove them and then send an updated log when I'm done. I'm trying to be proactive and do what I can without waiting for help at every step even though it may not seem like it here! My computer not playing ball didn't help but whilst I'm making proresss I want to continue to do so.

To avoid confusion (which was never my intention) I have deleted my latest hijackthis log and will post another when I'm done. I wasn't planning on deleting more programmes, just finding my feet and going with the flow!

Does pressing F8 during a reboot offer any Repair options?

Though since you said Siemens, and the ex-OH has the backup discs then I suspect not.

HijackThis can do it for you.

1. Open HijackThis.
2. Click Main Menu
3. Click on Open the Misc Tools section.
4. Look under System tools.
5. Click on Open Uninstall Manager....
6. Click on Save list....
7. You will be prompted to save. Save it to a convenient location, such as your Desktop. By default it's named uninstall_list.txt.
8. Notepad will open. Post the log.

Thank you bod, not tried yet - in full flow and don't want to lose momentum!

Thanks Waddler - will do that when I come to a halt. Currently finding stuff not used since 2004 so I'm figuring it's safe to remove that! My ex did a lot of playing around with music & dvd's so there's quite a lot of that stuff I'll never use that can go too. I really only need the basics.

To help security uninstall all the old versions of Java and install the latest update here:
