Although you could switch to a photo licence (and they only have a 10 year life before they need replacing)I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
All this talk about convictions/spent convictions/ROA is a complete red herring.
Only a court can convict someone of an offence. The OP was offered a FPN as an alternative to being prosecuted. He accepted this offer, paid his £60 and took his 3 points, so was never prosecuted, and therefore never convicted by any court. He never had a conviction. Acceptance of an FPN is not an admission of guilt either.
A FPN will show up on his DVLA record, but it will not show as a conviction on PNC (the FPN may still show, but as an FPN).
It is, however, still correct that the DVLA timescales for points being live (3 yrs) and then dropping off his licence (4 yrs) is wholly irrelevant to what the insurance company choose to take into account, which was the crux of the matter, at the start of the thread at least.0 -

You clearly don't know what you are talking about. A conviction in a court for speeding also won't show up on PNC when a normal name check is done. If a check is done on the driving licence record then the FPN and conviction will show up there.
If accepting the offer of a fixed penalty is not an admission, what exactly is it?"You should know not to believe everything in media & polls by now !"

Utter rubbish. If a fixed penalty is imposed the driver is convicted of the offence. Hence why there is a column "Conviction Date" which is completed accordingly on the paper counterpart.
How the authorities record the offence - is not really relevant. An A4 sheet of paper is an A4 sheet of paper, whether it is kept in a drawer or kept a filing cabinet.0 -

Well, here in Scotland when we get a court print of someone's record you get to see convictions and non-conviction disposals. That said, our checks are PNC and SCRO combined, and SCRO is exclusively Scottish, so this may differ from England. If accepting the offer of a fixed penalty is not an admission, what exactly is it?
It's an acceptance of the fine (and sometimes points) in order to avoid being prosecuted. It's not an admission of guilt.
