Who said i had a small flat? Do you know me?

That sort of Trollish reply plus the 2633 forum posts on here in the last couple of years suggests that handing out relationship advice might not really be your bag. :rotfl:

    You said it wouldn't fit!

I am not sure what you mean by your second sentence, happily married myself with a very intelligent woman. How about you?

What date did you tell them you wanted to return it?

I'm assuming (this being the key word) that it was after christmas with the OP saying he explained to them that due to it being a xmas present, he couldnt have returned in their timeframe.

And if my assumption is correct, its well over the 7 working days.

How can you see into my house????

No, I base her intelligence on having a first class law degree from Oxford. Plus she wouldn't buy a pool table to fit into a house that it wouldn't fit in.

    @ Gavin83

Its 7 working days so i would still be within that today.

you are 100% WRONG as you stated
She bought on the 28th Nov and it was delivered on 12th Dec

it is 7 working days from the date of delivery 12 Dec.
  • I am confused as to how it took you 20 days to realise that it is too big for the house - if it was delivered on the 12th?!!

Have you honestly just looked at it since then thinking "there's something not right here"? Or have you used it? In which case, its a used item as well as being out of the return period. I don't know a retailer in the world who would give you a refund/credit on that. Best you could hope for would be a refund minus a restocking fee and you'd have to pay for the courier to collect it - you'd get more back selling it on eBay.

Yes this is the case but its fine I will keep it as i now have the information i was looking for. I thought before today that there might have been a 30 day not 7 but hay ho you live and learn.

I have to say this is my last post. In the past i have found this board helpful and informative but i am seriously dissapointed at the Trolls on here now.

Big thanks to those who posted informative answers.

Big Boo to those who use this forum to insult others.

Why do so many people think that businesses should now just 'lend' things out to see if we like them (or can fit them in our home) ?

A business sells you (or your loved-one) an item. They are entitled to believe that the buyer has thought a little about what they are buying before they confirm the purchase. Once the sale has been made (and legal obligations such as DSRs complied with), they are entitled to consider the transaction is complete, and the money paid actually belongs to them. It is utterly unfair of the buyer (or the recipient of the item) to suddenly expect they can change their mind and get a refund.

I replied to a poster on here a while ago, who was really angry because he had bought a mobile phone (actually bought it in store), then after 2 days use changed his mind about it, but the store wouldn't take it back. Retailers don't offer a lending library service. When you buy something (even if it is for someone else), you should generally anticipate that the decision is final.

Now, some stores do offer extended terms for refunds or exchanges. That is their choice, and I believe the rest of us pay a price for that, as those stores have to make up the costs of that policy from somewhere (and there are costs, from basic admin to replacing damaged packaging or selling returned goods at a discount).

But I do think we should all stop taking it for granted that we can buy something and just return it if we change our minds.
I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say. :)
