  • I have had 35 years in the window business and 1st came across Everest in 1980, when I started work for Anglian home improvements. At that time Everest was part of Rio Tinto group, the largest producers of Aluminium in the world. Rio Tinto sold the company and the company has changed hands several times over the past 32 years and has now been acquired by the current management team. the product has changed over the years as each company sale brought in new window products. I know lots of Everest sales guys who uised to earn 25% commission from their door canvassing/sales activities, all of which is reflected in the price of the products.
Customers now have governemnt introduced window energy ratings, which clearly show the performance of the window. My advice, forget the 50% offers go for highest energy performance. Dont just settle for Grade A, some windows have Grade A rating + 8. the window has the potential to collect and trap heat in your home.
So tell the offers to BOGOF and look at energy performance Grade A +++++

Rang them up to say come and quote me for a 3X4 conservatory, 6 new windows and gutter furniture. Call centre said rep will be with you Saturday am - Rep rang me to change date - don't work Saturdays - new appointment arranged - rep arrives - only deals with Conservatories - would have to get somebody else to come re windows etc -(not what call centre said) - anyway bodg standard 3X4 Con - measured up - no comments re planning regs or building regs - gave a quote £27,330 after discount - told them to not bother sending window person - had two local regional companies come both quoted around £16000 for everything - re Everest - words like Pole, Barge, 10foot, touch and would'nt come to mind

The whole "BMW v Ford" guff really dosn't pass the sniff test - after all its a window. It let light in, keeps rain out. The phone comparison is an even worse comparison. Unless Everest have an order of magnitude better quality, which, having seen the badly mitred "Friday afternoon after the pub" job demo window that was waved under my nose, I have difficulty believing.

As an aside, Ford build quality appears on a par, if not better than BMW these days, s I suggest that people take the Everest shills advice and stick with Ford.
  • I have never had a quote on DG or had a conservatory installed etc. but why these arguments always come about. When Everest is mentioned, it is pure hate that people come out with.

It's a company that has been going for many, many years and are still going strong. Would they still be around if they were so bad? Either the millions of happy customers are just very naive and will pay anything or maybe, just maybe the quality of their work and the all round job is good.

As I say, I don't know either way before I get the 'you work for Everest' comments :)
  • Quality is the same a Joe Bloggs down the road, they use the same materials! I used to work in the industry and can categorically confirm that Everest used the same materials as the other companies. The difference is the massive mark up to cover the advertising and to pay their subcontractors. I would say, based on personal opinion and anecdotal evidence from various customers and contractors that you will get a better level of service for a hugely lower fee by going with a reputable local tradesman. Go to the local plastics supply company (google PVC windows, fascias etc) and ask at the counter. They may not be able to recommend but will usually have some business cards for local companies.

As a point of interest, Everest almost went bust earlier this year. The company has since been rescued by the Better Capital recovery fund which paid £25m for 95% stake. All that £25m was pumped into the company to provide 'working capital' meaning that the existing shareholders got nothing. Contrast with the £45m that Brian Kennedy paid for the business when he bought it from Caradon in 1999.

It remains to be seen whether the new management can succeed in turning Everest around and keep the business going.

Mr and Mrs Bloggs mean nothing to Everest. We've always had quotes from local firms who have been in business for years. These have a local reputation to keep up and care!

Not had a conservatory so far, but it's something we are thinking abput pricing soon - problem is, we have two steps down intp garden.

Everest would not even give my wife a quote because me, her husband, was not around. The salesman simply refused to even look at the windows, and wanted to arrange a time when both of us were there. I have never heard of a company unwilling to give a quote for work before. I guess they wanted us both to listen to their sales pitch with the hope that get suckered in by their made up discounts.

I had the same with Anglia if I remember correctly. Snide insinuation that your wife's judgement is flaky is not the best method to win friends and influence people.
