    Hi,

just starting out reclaiming my bank charges and going to try for credit card I used to use, but is still active. It's Beneficial Visa, part of HFC. Can't seem to find the address to send first letter too, though I may be being thick. Can anyone help?

    Cheers

Couple of addresses in the posts above, you would probably be as well to use the CS one.
  • I have a dilemma, and wondered if anyone had any advice/or are in the same situation?

I was out of work for a year, and i had a BENEFICIAL credit card with a limit of £5,000.....during this time, i ended up owing £7,900.

    My dilemma is this:

Beneficial have been very good to deal with (eventually, after a year of them threatening/persistant calls saying i'm not paying enough). When i got back into work, i agreed an arrangement with them that i pay £100 per month, and they would NOT put on any more interest to the total, or overlimit charges.

I am pleased to say that i now owe £3,400.

My question is, should i go down the route of reclaiming charges (which i would expect to be quite a lot) but may not cover remaining balance, or should i not "ROCK THE BOAT", and just swallow the charges to keep the arrangement?

It just grates on me that the total got so high in the first place BECAUSE of their inflated charges.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice/opinions in advance.

  • Gaz, the question is how much of that debt has been caused by them unlawfully taking charges off of you? Is that fair? If i punch you in the nose and you bleed, but i help to clean the blood up and you only have a broken nose, should i not be held accountable?
You will be pleased to know I won't punch you in the nose but it has to be YOUR decision. ok :)

  • My main fear is that if i write the first letter asking for a list of my charges, they are bound to know why i want them........can they at this point go back on the arrangement we have in place and start APPLYING interest again?

Rock and hard place spring to mind...

  • If they have an agreement in place and you have written confirmation, then they have entered into a contract with you. They cannot break it or you can sue em for that as well.

  • Ah....that's what i was worried about. No written confirmation, just a case of "if i pay £100 every month, they don't/will not chase me for more, or add interest to the debt.

Think i may leave this as it stands, but persue my other claims.

If they go well, may come back to get them armed with a few quid that could cover the 'shortfall' should there be any.....Not after "free cash", but would be nice to wipe my mis-spent youth debts.

Cheers for your input, i have another thread (my fight) which i'm keeping as a diary and updating as and when... as i say, if that goes well, BENEFICIAL will be hearing from me.

    Thanks again

Grass them up to the Information Commissioner, they are supposed to keep all records for 6 years.
