I have had some good news at last.
My funding will be paid on Friday. Then every monday after that.
I am so relieved as the bank is relatively empty and all reserves used up. It has taken constant emailing, telephoning and never giving up on the process.
I just hope that there are no hiccups with the system now. It is a bit late but I should just about to be able to get a few more Euro's at the Post office before we fly. (The deals at the airport are not very good I understand).

DGD has gone out for the day with Molly's daughter so I can get on.
I am still searching for the name tapes. So small, where on earth did I put them? I will have to go into the loft and check the boxes up there. Eek.
I have been relaxing in the garden as much as I could over the weekend, topping up my tan! As if I wont get one in Portugal.
I will be so relieved that the funding has finally got the official go ahead, everything is in writing and I can breathe a huge sigh of relief and enjoy our holidays.

    Onwards and upwards I hope!

If you pre-order from the Travelex bureau to pick up at the airport it's not so bad. Definitely better than exchanging without pre-ordering.

However, you will have to pre-pay if you pre-order, so make sure that whichever card you use doesn't sting you for that: I got caught a few times using my Smile Debit card which adds something like £3.50, because it sees it as a foreign transaction! Now use my Nationwide C/A debit card.

Thanks Sue, I dont want to use my cards really, so I would rather just get it at the Post office. At least I know where that is, can park near by, and can get it over the counter, then I know its in my nitty gritty hands. I cant pre-order unless its with a credit card and I dont want to use that! Its for emergencies.

DGD has gone out. Time for me to search the loft for those name tapes.

Well after spending quite a lot of time up in the loft, acquainting myself with the masses of fabrics I had forgotten I had up there, I didnt find the name tapes. But then the size of them, compared to all the bags and boxes, its been no luck.
So I give up!. I will have to order new name tapes and sew them on the uniform on our return. Bit late in the day, but thats all I can do now. I havent a clue where else to look.
I did unearth some black and white fabric that I have had for many years and will add that to the quilt fabrics that I am using at the moment though!.
Only problem is seeing all that fabric really just makes me want to get on and create things. But alas I just dont have the time.
I think I will need a shower now, as I am feeling rather itchy from the loft.

Sounds like the first thing you need to create is some organisation
    ;)
Perhaps when you come back from holiday you can get everything down from the loft and properly organised in you sewing room, otherwise you can easily find yourself spending money needlessly.
because you don't know exactly where you've put something.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

The problem is that I dont have a sewing room. Had to give it up to move DGD earlier this year, and DS moved into the smaller room. That is still full of all of his stuff.
I reckon it would take a long time to organize the stuff I have. having not seen it since it all went up in the loft, and yes I am embarrassed to say, I bought further fabrics etc, that are in my bedroom. (Again once cleared of most of the clutter, is slowly becoming cramped up again!.)
I think I could do with an investment in a garden lodge or something one day. Turn it into a studio.

    That will be the day.

The labels are ordered, along with some sticky labels. All less then £10. But again, your right an expense I should not have had to encure!.
I am afraid that organisation is my biggest down fall. Will I ever control it? Maybe one day. :rotfl:

I started the day feeling as if I could tackle a lot of the odd jobs etc while DGD was out. But I am really feeling rather Lazy at the moment. Must get some energy and a boost.
I also had the urge to purchase some Cath Kidston from thier email. But I did resist.
So I am going to get off of the laptop and keep away from the temptations that I cannot afford.

  • Would this type of thing help organise your materials...doesn't seem to use up much space..

I'm not a maker, but I do have a sewing box which was sold as a tool box, one of those with a lift out tray and click lid. In the tray are all my spools of thread, needles, pins etc, and underneath are wunderweb, odds and ends of elastic, and the boys' name tapes, plus my darning mushroom!

Mind you, I gave up on sewing labels on, I had a rubber stamp made with our surname and just stamped their name onto the fabric care label. Yes, it fades in time, but it's quite quick and easy to do again! Saved hours when they were going to camp / school trips and needed their normal clothes done. Not so great on black socks, of course, but everything else, works a treat!

  • Or the loft. I might have known he'd do it to you again. I know he is still young, but he flits from one thing to another and probably will for a long time yet, until he learns to take responsibility. Hopefully your girls, ex or maybe Molly's daughter may be able to come and help you get your home sorted once and for all. The sooner the better.
