Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 2nd January. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all! Early start for me today - due to DS2 having wet bed! Never mind though as I was in bed before 8 last night - absolutely shattered. Today OH goes back to work so before he goes the house needs tidying, we need to fill the boot of the car with rubbish and recycling and take it when we go to check on the camper van. We're taking our jack russell with us as we found mice last time so despite setting traps I'm not confident! Daisy can get them all! For any mouse lovers - don't worry she's not even 6 months yet and tiny so she won't know what to do with them!
My meal planning is going well - we went to my neighbours last night! Traditional New Years Day dinner. Today in our house we'll have turkey soup (made from the leftovers and veg) and then scrambled egg or something easy for tea. WM already on and I can hear the rain on the window, so when the heating comes on hopefully a fair amount will dry. Loving the peace and quiet of just me and my coffee before the boys get up.
Sorry I've not had a chance to read yesterdays thread, but I really hope that everything goes well for you all in 2012. May you have what you wish for xxx KAZZAW - try taking a zinc supplement - or a multivit? Sorry if this is against the rules.Me, OH, grown DS, (other DS left home) and Mum (coming up 80!). Good Morning ESMF and All Who Follow x
My plans today include baking a cake for my mum and starting to take the Christmas Tree down which always makes me sad as I love the twinkly lights.
Hugs for a good day xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Morning all,
Just grabbing some coffees before DGD2 wakes up, she enjoyed her roast lamb dinner we had y/day and her bath, lots of games played and stories read before she zonked out at 8pm.
Today she can help me strip the trees and box up the decs. I'll let DH tackle the beams. I'm early taking them down this year but I've a lot to do this week.
HM lentil soup defrosting for lunch, another LO roast lamb, mince pie & custard for DH tonight, think I'll have chicken salad.
Will put BM & WM on later when the solar can pay for the electric.
Off to catch up on y/days thread, It's the longest I've seen it. Good to see some old names crop up.
Wonder how SMOKYBABE is. x0 -
Morning :hello:
Master tru sauntered in late afternoon, turns out he was just down the road at his mate's house.
Camelot, S twists things too, she's fabulous at it. After the split, she rang master tru and ranted and cried "now my little girl has been taken away and my mum's just walked out". I could see the guilt on his face, so I reminded him that actually, her mum had arrived to pick up the little girl (couldn't stop because she was on her way to work) and drop her round to her dad's house (S doesn't have a car ATM). This was arranged on Boxing Day.
I read a post from a friend on another site that said 'this is the year of me'. I thought good for you, I should do that. Then I remembered that I've been saying that on here for the past three years and it never happens. It starts well, then fizzles out within a fortnight. This time, I'm sticking to it. I'll get no help from anyone in this house so I'll have to encourage myself
I'll be looking for a new job (if I stay in this one much longer I'll punch the boss). I'd like three full days a week please, if that's not possible then four hours a day, five days a week, thank you. Until I find another, I'll stick with the one I've got and concentrate on getting my stuff online and pushing it round the local shops. I had a surge of craftmaking then other things got in the way and I ground to a halt. My yoga DVD has a new home - I'm leaving it in the laptop. That way I can use it in the kitchen, don't really want to have an audience from passers-by when I'm in the lounge
I'll be 'shopping from home' for a while. There's plenty of meat from Christmas in the freezer, also homegrown veg last year. The cupboards are full and the girls are giving us five eggs a day ATM.Bulletproof0 -

Good morning everyone.
Cold dark and dank here but I am ready to face the world - I have cupboards which need clearing out and they contain who knows what horrors. This time it's the bedroom - things seem to get shoved into the wardrobe drawers and then disappear into the clutter.
Congratulations to Lippy's MIL who was awarded the MBE, no wonder you are all proud of her.
Apart from taking things to the dump - sorry, recycling centre - the day will be peaceful and happy, it is ordered!!
I hope everyone has the same. And yes, it is so good to see some of the 'old' faces back in again.0 -
Morning All
I hope that everyone had a good New Year's day
Very windy here this morning and it is quite chilly, so I am sat with my big old faithful Starsky cardi on.
I am another one who likes the quiet before everyone else is up.
All the decorations are coming down today so that we can get back to normality, it might be all I can get done because I have been in agony for the last couple of days but I am trying to keep going on painkillers. DH says it is because I have done too much, but I don't like to be a burden to him or the kids.
DH is taking his mum out to look for a lap top today, it will be her first, she is 80 in April so it is never too late is it
We need to finish all the Christmas bits and bobs, even though I cut back we still have way too much left so That means I can cut back even more for Christmas 2012.
Lippycow :T well done MILBlessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Okay! So I weighed myself today and that's the start of 2012!
Weight Loss so Far:
2009 - 2st 11.5lbs
2010 - 2st 13lbs
2011 - 2st 3.5lbs
TOTAL 8st loss
Although I am not amused that I have gained 6lbs in the last few weeks... or these figures would have been more impressive! HOWEVER I am very please to have finally gained some weight during my pregnancy... I am still 15lbs lighter then when I fell pregnant! Had Roo come in December my figures would have looked REALLY good
Okay so today is Week 39! Roo has 7 days left! I don't think Roo is very frugal like me though... the sooner Roo is born the sooner I can sell my car and the more money I can save. Also it means I can stop my £8 a week milk habbit and £10 a week meat habbit! Because £18 is a LOT of money in a week for just those two things! I keep telling Roo this in hopes Roo is OS and wants to save me money by coming out
Today... Lazy day! I spent all of yesterday sorting and simplifying my finances (nesting!!) and it all looks really good. I am on target for my April 2012 saving target and my April 2013 saving target too!
Take care everyone, have a great day xWe spend money we don't have, on things that we don't need, to impress people we don't like. I don't and I'm happy! Mortgage Free Wannabe :dance:Overpayments Made: £5400 - Interest Saved: £11,550 - Months Saved: 240 -
Morning all
I took my decorations down a few days ago & then realised that I'd left one large angel on top of the bookcase & found 3 more baubles under the TV stand, I have a large glass vase that I fill with red baubles & DGD who is 11 months old had tipped the vase over rolled the baubles everywhere, lol.
I'm hoping it is bright enough today to take some pics of the things I make & put them on FB, thanks to a brilliant idea from a fellow MSE'r
Molly, I miss the lights too, but this year hubby has put fairy lights round the gazebo & they will stay there all year.
Lippy, congrats to your MIL.
Cranky, I can't believe it's 2 years, but good news about the food mixer.
Lovely to see posts from those MIA.
Nonna, great suggestion, we only have 2 shops, but I will advertise in both.
Thrift Wizard, my nearest market is way too expensive, but I have been told about another one that I shall try.
Tru, my youngest DS had a very wierd GF, fortunately she didn't manage to get pregnant by him, but did with her next BF & made his life a misery.
Patentgirl, your comment about shoes by the door brought back memories, when my 4 kids were of an age to go clubbing, we had an arrangement that they would line their shoes up by my bedroom door, that way if I got up in the night, I could tell at a glance if they were home & could go back to bed without worrying.
This is the last day of hubby's holiday & he's building a 3rd raised bed & he's put his little plastic greenhouse up under the gazebo where is is sheltered from rain & wind.
I think I've waffled on long enough now.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester
