Other tips - get a decent nursing pillow. And something else I've forgotten I had to do but made a lot of difference: when your milk comes in it takes a week or so for demand and supply to get sorted out. My boobs used to be like rocks and F would bounce off them trying to get a latch. They simply weren't soft enough for him to get a good gobful of breast tissue, so he ended up just gnawing the nipple. If this happens to you, it's a good idea to express off a bit of that foremilk until your boob feels a bit softer around the areola. Plus expressing helps to elongate your nipple which is important so that they can get it right to the back of their mouth. My nips have really changed shape since I've been BFing. I didn't realise but they were a bit flat before which didn't help. Now they stand proud!"Growth for growth's sake is the ideology of the cancer cell" - Edward Abbey.0

I meant to ask earlier - do you ladies have any recommendations (or things to avoid/are unnnecessary) for weaning?
.
Banana :rotfl:
I know its not what you meant but I suggest you try to stay away from it. Jake LOVES it, as in would eat it all day every day if I let him but it causes terrible constipation. He once didn't poo for nine days (he usually goes every day).
You don't need any special tools, a normal food processor and a fork work fine. Buy several spoons as I've found Jake likes to chew one/insists I give him the first one whilst I'm (trying to) feeding him. Start with breakfast, its the meal you are most likely to eat at home regularly. Eat with them as it promotes them to chew. Have a glass/sippy cup of water on hand as not only is it healthy/aid digestion to drink water with meals it also helps when they choke. Oh and yes they choke, its scary the first few times (I'm still nervous and I've been at this a few weeks) but unless its a huge piece of food they will cough it back up fairly quickly. Be prepared that once you start you will not be able to eat in front of them without them screaming for a taste. Its up to you how much / what you feed them but I tend to give Jake a taste of anything that is suitable ie, if it doesn't have massive amounts of salt/sugar then he gets a taste (by a taste I mean just that, maybe less than a half a finger nail size). If I am eating something I know he cant have I tend to make him half a piece of toast as although he loves it he doesn't really eat it he just sucks it and smears his face /the tray/the dog with it but it keep him happy as he feels like he's sharing your meal.
Of course this is just my experience and your mileage may vary.:A:A:A:A:A:A0 -

What a great idea - I'll definitely remember this for when we're starting weaning in a few weeks' time. We don't have a dog though, so she'll have to make do with face and tray!0 -
Shocking Jannine! How could you?!... :rotfl:
I know, somebody call Social Services!! :rotfl:
I really had to bite my tongue though as my Cousin never sterilises anything, never has since having her little one. Fair enough its her decision not to and I wouldn't stick my oar in and tell her that she should really be sterilising. But the more I think about her smug face and her telling me that he little one has only ever eaten homecooked food - grrrrr!!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Thought I'd share a new picture of Poppy taken yesterday! She had her first go on a kiddies ride, a little Sooty Bus at an arcade - she loved it! We did the cutest video of her and Daddy was really pleased as he won a big Miss Piggy teddy from one of those claw machines!!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:
