Please don't think I'm stupid for posting this :( but its worrying me a bit - what do you ladies do with your babies in the day?
I don't know what reassurance I'm after really - but if anyone has any that would be great! :) I really do doubt myself sometimes :(

I felt exactly the same as you when Jake was that age, like I was doing something wrong or ignoring him by not constantly playing with him. It gets easier (harder?) in allot of ways in a few weeks when they start to actually interact with objects around them, everything goes in the mouth and even the dog isnt safe to walk by without them grabbing handfuls of fur (which also go straight in the mouth). I'll confess to making my OH do ALL the housework for the first 10 weeks because I "couldnt put the baby down/not interact with him" (I know I'm terrible as he works 40+ hrs a week) At least now I can sit him in his walker and let him play with his toys for a bit when I need to do stuff.

I put Jake in his walker on the tiled kitchen floor for the first time in a while today, left him playing looking at the garden through the back door while I walked into the adjoining room (no door, just a door frame) and folded some washing, a few minutes later I randomly look down there he is smiling up at me. He had negotiated past the door frame, past the dog bowls and freezer and over the other side of the room all on his own. Flipping `eck the last time I put him in it he couldnt even move it! That boy is going to be walking before Christmas I can see it. I know he's only 4.5 months but stands up on his own from a sitting position if you give him two fingers, and will quite happily walk across the room if you just guide him under the arms/around the ribcage (bowleggedness caused by early walking is an old wives tale according to his paediatrician, who noticed his desire to stand up at 6 WEEKS)

    Delurks for a moment...
Even though I've still got a whole trimester to go before I've even got a baby I've started reading baby books. :D

I am busy with this one whch seems quite good: Weaning Made Easy by Rana Conway (it seems a good overall view, and she does cover baby led weaning but also the traditional methods). I've also read (and finished) a BLW only book which was also a good read: Baby-led weaning : helping your baby love good food by Gill Rapley.

...returns to lurking and the pregnancy thread...

Pops back briefly to ask if any of you lovely ladies tried hypnobirthing? I'm considering getting a book or CD on it but some advice from someone who's been there is invaluable :)

    ....dashes off again....

Yes, i thought i'd answered a question on this before from you? I used Natal hypnotherapy (google that). I got the boxed set of 4 for hospital births, and found it really good. The midwives at the hospital when i was finally in labour aftern being induced, all commented how relaxed i was.

My Jessies weight is such a worry to me, I've booked a dr's appt to discuss it, I had gestational diabetes in pregnancy, I was on an extremely high insulin and metformin regime which still didn't control it, because of risk of still birth, can happen to babies of mums with gest diabetes, and because of the risk of baby suddenly becoming large and getting stuck I had to have a C section, Baby was also breech!

Jess was delivered at 37 and half weeks and was 5lb15 at birth, her sugar took a day to stabilise.

So my worry is Jess is over 99th for weight and height, I worry did it affect heror did any of the Ivf drugs affect her?, and how come she is so big, I'm really not into the *don't worry* comments, it is not normal for her to be this large.
My Hv said she looks healthy so not to worry.........I haven't been abck since Jess was 4months as I'll snap at her.

    sorry to vent x
Toni, i wouldnt worry, The fact that she is 99th% for height as well, suggests she is perfectly in proportion. If she was 99th for weight and much lower for height, that would be more cause for worry. its feasible that GD could impact a babies weight, but according to my consultant, not so their height.
CJ is 91st for weight and 98th for height, and has roughly stayed on those lines since birth. The HVs arent worried as the two are roughly in line together.

Mine was the same and he's cruising the furniture already at 6.5 months. I was told by my pediatrician, walkers are good but only 20 minutes max at a time twice a day, it can cause problems with hips and hip dysplasia and late walking. I'm still toying with the idea of getting one because of that :(

Thanks Fluff, Lirin and Safesound :) I feel a lot better now, I guess part of the problem is me learning how to relax and do nothing but enjoy being with baby - its diffcult adjusting to a whole different pace of life somethimes!

Joseph has his first injections this afternoon - feel a bit nervous!

    Hope everyone is well :)

    Morning

Triangle - hope the injections don't upset Joseph to much. :(
Also just to add I used to feel guilty if I put Noah under his play gym or in front of the tv so I could get things done but sometimes we have no choice as things need to be done. I just make sure I pick him up/ play with him every so often. I'm quite lucky in that Noah is very content so he will watch a whole episode of mickey mouse club house whilst I get on with house work so it doesn't take me long and I can spend the rest of the day doing what we want togethr. I take him to baby group on a Monday and i am going to take him swimming on a wednesday when my boys are back at school.

Probably did :o Were all four CDs useful? Trying to decide between the 4 pack or just the pregnancy and birth ones!

Please don't think I'm stupid for posting this :( but its worrying me a bit - what do you ladies do with your babies in the day? Sounds a strange question so I'll explain!

Joseph is now 8 and a half weeks. We often go out for a couple of hours in the day- either a mooch into town in the pram or seeing family/friends or a walk with the dog (J in baby sling).

Today I could not be bothered to do anything at all - we had lots of cuddles, I watched a film and did a bit of housework (or to be precise, 5 minutes washing up!) when he was asleep. When awake, he has been on play gym for a very short while and in his baby chair for longer. But for some stupid reason I feel guilty - like I should be doing more with him? I talk regularly to him and sing too...and try and get him interested in a couple of toys! In September our weekly baby group re-starts and we are also going to Waterbabies once a week. We may also try out a baby music group held at local children's centre.

I don't know what reassurance I'm after really - but if anyone has any that would be great! :) I really do doubt myself sometimes :(

Triangle - I also feel the same as you. Baby is two weeks old tomorrow and this week is my first week on my own and feeling a bit lost. From the kind of daily routine that you've been doing sounds very similar to what i have been doing, lots of walking and pottering around town. Desperate to try a bus journey but a bit nervous about it on my own with pram. Going to give the underground a go today for the first time.

One query I have for all breastfeeding mums - is it normal that baby seems to be eating constantly during the day?

Also is anyone following the gina ford schedule? i was for a few days but finding baby is happier with my adapted schedule.
