Yoemma- sounds like an optimum position at the mo! I believe that post birth all visitors should be banned for at least a month !! Unless they bring food.....
You know, I did say before twingos arrived that all visitors were to come at mealtimes and bring food. Only one friend and oh's parents have paid attention to this! So annoying x"I believe in manicures. I believe in overdressing. I believe in primping at leisure and wearing lipstick. I believe in pink. I believe happy girls are the prettiest girls. You needed an appropriate sign for your door
Emma !
Before I had Scott I had ideas about a week in bed resting to establish bf etc all went out the window it felt like it was an Olympic race over who was coming round and when, mil left a 'number' of voice mails as she had to wait until I was out if hospital... At least I accomplished that bit of my plan !!0 -
Don't get me started on visitors after babies born, we had dp's brother round when little one was 2 days old moaning that mil hadn't seen him and we were deliberately not letting her!
Dp and his mum fell out but I still told her when baby was born as I knew he wouldn't but she never mentioned about coming over to see us. Her message literally said "thanks for letting me know"
Then she had the cheek to say we were stopping her seeing the baby!!
They still don't talk so things are very awkward as you can imagine!!

I'm going to be so conscious when it comes to visiting new mums, either leave them be til the furore has died down or come with food!!!
Now got G on me, ready for bedtime feed at 10pm. Will get searching the thread for sleep routines as it'd be interesting to know how soon you all started with your LO's x"I believe in manicures. Morning ladies, I'm wandering over from the pregnancy thread if you don't mind
I'm only 21 weeks so far so still a while to go but as it's my first (and I have never been around babies either...) I'm trying to read up on all sorts of things and would appreciate some advice if you have any. Just devoured a book on 'baby led weaning' - sounds sensible to me, are any of you trying it? The only problem I can see is if I go back to work at 6 months, how to bridge the bit between milk and solids while baby is at nursery/childminder? I'm going to try and avoid formula entirely if possible (I realise it might not be).
Thanks in advance!
Your situation is more or less mine- Lo will be just under 7 months when i go back to work week after next, and will be at Nursery pretty much full time.
I decided to go the BLW route, as opposed to traditional weaning, and had planned on waiting till 6 months to start. Ended up starting at 4.5 months, when lo started grabbing food out of my hand and off any plates she could reach and stuffing it in her mouth!
She has taken to it great guns, and at lunch and dinner, pretty much has what i/we have- we dont add salt to anything now. it makes my life easier, and she is trying and enjoying loads of different foods, textures and flavours. The Health visitor and others have commented about how good her hand eye co-ordination are for her age, and i'm sure it is down to the practice with picking up and eating whole food. I do feed her some things- yoghurt and baby porridge i put on the spoon and share feeding, i give her a spoonful, and she puts the next one in herself. If she is really hungry, she gets too impatient to feed herself everything.
Other than the food, she has been entirely breastfed (EBF), and despite my best efforts, until recently refused to take a bottle of expressed milk, however, after trying lots of different bottles, she will now take some. If you want to try and avoid formula, which i felt too, my recommendation to you for bridging the gap, is to try and get your LO used to taking a bottle early on (around 4-5 weeks in) for occasional feeds using expressed milk. You'll need to buy a pump- its hard work pumping, so an electric is best usually, i have a Medela Swing, which is great. Start building a stash of milk in the freezer in month before you go back, and then express morning/evening at home, and if possible, during the day at work. That should give you enough to send to nursery with her in bottles. You will find that once LO gets into food, they will start dropping the number and or size of their milk feeds, and then you wont need to send so much milk with them. My daughter has cut right back on her milk during the day, and only has a small feed mid morning and mid afternoon, and larger feeds first thing in the morning and last think at night.
Sorry thats so epic. If you want to ask anything else, feel free, or PM me.

Sammie - sounds like a nightmare !! Don't get why family decide to create drama.... Think that after birth it's oh's duty to deal with family drama!!
Emma- cant help you with the routines, we do what suits us, I am sahm, hubby helped with LO in the evening so I could get rest so Scott has always had a later bedtime. He usually sleeps through to just before 6 (says touching a large tree trunk), he is drinking until he goes to sleep. We do last feed in bed then he is transferred to crib in our room. However I always do night time wakings (though exceptions were on occasion in the early days). We were told by a friend things get easier after 3 months. I think that it's a bit early for routines yet but am sure others will comment. I think that thinking ahead to how you want things is key. I think some do bath, bed etc but I do Scott's showers in the morning as I am home it does not matter etc
By the way I love these bath seats for using in the big bath and showering Scott !! They do them in pink, Scott can lie in them and not fall out so would say washing two at once in two of these could actually be possible !!

Nightimes for us were hard at first as he had bad colic, he seemed to get better at 11 wks though. We kind of went with what he wanted and he set his own routine really. Early days we bathed him in the morning as he absolutely hated the bath and it wouldnt have calmed him or got him in the mood for bed so it seemed more logical to bath in the morning. Now we bath at 645 and cuddles till about 745, he is usually in his cot asleep by 9.
Early days he used to fall asleep on one of us but now he is starting to grow out of that. He also used to like white noise but think that was colic.
Ro we have that bath seat too! Atm he likes to lie flat and kick like crazy though, but do agree they would be handy with two bubbas xLittle Man born 11 March 2012 :smileyhea

Oh no sunshine I would of been really annoyed too!
Ro - If I left it to oh to deal with his mother he would never of told her baby was here! Does annoy me though as I have to put up with her moaning etc when I really didn't need it at the time, I feel sorry for her as she hardly sees the boys anymore but she can be wicked sometimes and has bought in on herself. She has even threatened to take us to court for access even though I have never stopped her seeing the kids  she drives me insane.
