Ro - I went to a baby sign taster session at an nct baby group the other week, it was really good. Hope you get on with the book, I'm sure the lady that did our session said YouTube has some videos for it too. I'm going to do a course in the autumn when G is a bit older, a few people I've spoken to said it really helped them.
So much for back to normal routine - normally at bedtime we put G down in his big cot in the bedroom until our bedtime when we bring him through into the living room where I sleep and OH sleeps in the bedroom (on nights when he's up for work in the morning). Works a treat. But OH isn't feeling well so has gone to bed early so I'm trying to get G to settle in the front room straight off. Not working so well. Hope he goes off soon, poor little man is shattered.
Ps we're in a one bed flat which is why I'm in the living room - we changed the bedroom into a nursery for G. No way was I missing out on decorating the baby's room! But it does mean having to sleep on a sofa bed every night that's only designed for occasional use. One day we'll win the lottery and look back and laugh!Newborn thread member

Ha well it was kind of necessity - we couldn't fit any extra storage in the bedroom for G's clothes or anything, let alone have room for a cot. So we've got rid of the bed and have a second sofa bed in there with his cot etc. just want to pay a bit more off the mortgage before we try andmove. I think most people think we're crackers!
I'm taking advantage of the break in routine to have sleepy cuddles on the sofa instead of trying to make him settle in the cribNaughty mummy, I'll probably pay for it tomorrow when he won't sleep anywhere else!

Oh baby signing is great
its what I did my dissertation on. Babies of sign language using deaf parents can use their first sign on average around 6 months (average first spoken word is 9 months) - and babies learn the motor control for their hands much sooner than they learn motor control and coordination of tongue, lips, cheeks, air flow - just hands is much easier!
I got my sister to do baby signing with my niece (so that I had a test subject available), even though neither of them are deaf, and at the time my niece had something like 15 words but 25 signs on top of that - she had more than doubled her ability to communicate. She was my sister's third child, and she said it made a huge difference. We all know our child's "I'm hurting/poorly" cry...but imagine if your pre-speech child could tell you it was their head hurting not their tummy etc....makes for a much easier toddler stage if you can give them what they want because they can communicate it....an absolutely fascinating subject0 -
Thank you - will try tomorrow0 -
Thank you ladies for all your positive and helpful comments. It's good getting advice from people who've actually been through the same thing. When you hear about other peoples babies sleeping well, it's easy to think that you're doing something wrong. You've all given me lots of ideas to try over the next few days. I'm going to try a few of them before going down the route of going to my GP to investigate possible causes. I'd never heard of tongue tie before and had a good look in my sons mouth but it appears normal. (I know I'm no expert). I think it sounds like he might have reflux/colic. It is reassuring that most of you said that things improved of their own accord by about 11 weeks.... That just seems a long way off at the moment! I'm just going to keep at it though. Thanks again for your help. Now I've been brave and broken the ice, I might try posting more often. It's good to know there's lots of you out there, with sound advice when I'm cracking up! Who knows, next time I might be able to offer some of you some help and advice!0
