  • i make up the bottles as i go along unless im going out then i put the water in the bottle and into a bottle warmer bag and add the powder when needed.

i tend to use the water from the last boiled kettle add 3 oz into the bottle and when he is due for the next feed boil the kettle and just add an 1oz so its warm enough for him to drink .

we have a seperate kettle for samuel so its easier as hubby drinks loads of tea and is always boiling the kettle.

samuel is still on 3 hourly feeds and only drinking 4 oz at a time although sometimes now he seems to be stocking up in the evening and drinking 7 to 8 oz in one go but he is sleeping through the night now, albeit in my bed and not his

Morning all. Can I ask how everyone who is formula feeding, how are you making up your bottles? Thanks x

We put 4oz in a bottle, then when he wants feeding we put another 3oz of boiling water in and add the powder. He wont drink anything thats not warm, fussy little thing :rotfl:
I am sure the HV would tell me this is wrong.

My midwife told me yesterday to make them up in advance but not to tell the HV she said so :rotfl: I normally make 2 up in advance and just keep remaking when theyre done. At night we make them up fresh with water from a flask as he gwts too frantic at night and its quicker than heating up in the bottle warmer xx

  • Hi Ladies

I am after a little advise please - re mattresses!!! Its been 5 years since I have had to purchase a cot or crib mattress and as usual things have moved on since then!! Would you please mind telling me which mattresses you all chose and why?? I am intrigued by the special mattress with a dent (for lack of a better word) that are supposed to prevent flat head syndrome - does anybody have these? Are they any good?? In the past I have tended to buy Mothercare mattress with a removeable cover but with so many mattresses on the market - I am a bit confused!! I will probably be needing a mattress for moses basket, crib and eventually a cot, and any input about which brands are good would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

I boil the kettle and fill my bottles with 7ozs of water. When LO wants feeding I add formula and shake = voila instant bottle. Both my MW and HV advised me to do it this way as it means LO has got used to having room temperature feeds and we don't have to wait around for water to heat up/cool down. It also means I don't have any issues if I am out for the day as I just take my bottles of water and one of those 3 segment formula pots with pre-measured formula in, in fact we use that overnight too so we don't have to waste time measuring out :D

Wonder Womble, not sure if your LO has bad wind or not, but think she may have if you're looking for gripe water? My midwife advised me to heat the formula to help break up the wind, and it does seem to be helping, I heat it as to as warm as possible (for LO to take) that coupled with the Dr Brown bottles really seems to be helping me.

Didnt know this! DS wont have anything other than warm milk, which can be a pain when we're out and about. Thinking about it though, his wind has been a lot better since he started having his milk warm we havent had to use gripe water half as much.

Most times just a little dip of gripe water on his dummy is enough to get a burp out then settle him.

Thank you everyone. I did think of doing it this way,but thought the water had to be a certain temp to kill the bugs in the powder?

Seems to have helped us. :) We always did heat but not as warm as she showed me. Same with his bath she told me to make it warmer too and if he has bottom wind, some rice in a sock heated in the microwave on his tummy and he will fart away.

I have a grizzly little boy today he wont settle for more than half an hour, got so much to do too.
