£405.33 OP made today - housemate's rent and small ama$on sale.
Had scan yesterday - all went well, measurements all in the right range and baby is developing as well as can be expected:j. My wish to not know the gender was met - when OH asked, were told the baby was lying with its back to us, so there was no way of telling. A surprise it is then! :j!
Off on holiday tomorrow, busy trying to finish up at work and get everything ready. 15cm of snow forecast for where we're going ! Have given OH a shopping list of supplies to take with us so that if we're snowed in we will not need to go to the shops. Have been flyladying and eating some frogs too.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

Well done for not finding out - everyone seems to these days and I think it's nice not to - it's one of the few true surprises in life and nice to look forward to after the labour.
Glad all's well - but eating frogs?! Am I missing something?0 -
Hey mw
Hope you manage to get off on hols and not snowed in!!
Bless bump being a surprise for you - always more exciting that way!
Well done on the flyladying - I could do with some of that around my house at the mo! (but that would involve me moving and being bothered to do something!!)
Just realised I never responsed about the FD account- have been manic last few days and not got around to even reading it properly! not because I was ignoring it!!0 -
Hi Museumworker
I've been following your diary for a couple of weeks, although haven't posted on it. I noticed you'd said something a few days ago about feeling like you were talking to yourself at the moment - you aren't! Lots of people are reading and wishing you well, including me.
Congratulations on your recent overpayments - the £400ish is a great chunk off. You are doing something that is brave and hard - trying to OP while also raising a family, and this has been a real encouragement to me, and a spur to do more with my own OPs.
Was really interested to read your first post on the diary, where you say a bit about yourself and what your mortgage situation is. Was really intrigued by your £19k house extension - well done! We may attempt something like that in the future - was that a two-storey extension you did? What was the level of upheaval? It's a big thing to take on.
Also, I think I remember you said something about finishing a book proposal - when will you hear whether it will be approved? (Sorry if I've confused this with someone else's thread!). I'm a university academic, so know how it feels to submit a book proposal and then have to wait for ages to find out if anything will come of it.
Thanks again for sharing your journey with us all.0 -
Hello all, I am back and had a lovely week off. The place felt very remote and quiet, I baked lots and OH cooked, we visited 3 national trust places, a day out in ludlow, went for a couple of walks and generally tried to chill out. I was feeling quite refreshed, but was back to work yesterday, which involved an overnight stay, and slept REALLY badly last night. Mainly due to crazy pregnancy dreams - but woke up feeling sick with tiredness! Am home now, but feeling too shattered to do anything I had hoped (like a local pregnancy yoga class - ordered a pregnancy dvd instead, very naughty
).
The main MSE news is we were VERY naughty and were so impressed with the humax recording box that we have ordered a freeview+ box for ourselves - at the grand cost of £180 :eek:! A complete luxury, but we found it brilliant to record films for DD, and things we wanted to watch rather than be at the mercy of the programmers. Plus pausing live telly is a godsend.
I did make an OP of £15.53 from ama$on sales, and our standard £207.01 OP too, so I hope that redeems me slightly.
macgirl frogs are I think a flylady type thing (or at least have heard it mentioned on the thread). They are the things that you keep putting off - so eating a frog is just a phrase for dealing with difficult and unwanted tasks. Am trying to 'eat' a couple a week at the minute.
tyo got there ok, and snow melted enough for me to get out and about thank goodness. I have received the recommend a friend cards now - they are for the first direct current account, so if you want me to recommend you (or anyone else reading) please do pm mw.
Welcome penny and thanks for posting; it is good to know I am not just blethering on to myself all the time! Are you keeping a diary of your own? In terms of the extension, first post probably not clear. We had £17K left over from sale of OHs flat/my deposit. We thought we'd need another £10K or so for the extension. In the end we spent about £30K + VAT on the extension, which was adding another floor to our (very small) terraced house. We have added 2 double rooms, one with an ensuite. We also spent £5K + VAT on replacing our rear windows (which were rotten) with double glazed wooden sash windows, plus some more on replacing some radiators, redecorating, recarpeting, furnishing... We couldn't have gone ahead with the work without the £19K we put into savings in 2011, and we probably saved more once you add up all the bits we paid for out our pocket, but the total cost is probably more like £41K or so :eek::eek:! It was an upheaval, harder work than I thought but totally worth it - our home is big enough now for a larger family. We remortgaged with a better ltv as our house value increased by £63K, so started saving £200pm in interest alone immediately - which we now make a regular OP. We will have also earnt just under £5k from renting the new room out for a year - so all in all, a good financial investment, as well as an emotional one!
The book proposal is more a tentative one to approach publishers, so no deadline as such. What is your subject area academically, if you don't mind me asking?Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

yes, all ok - just tired as ever (boring I know!). Made pancakes with DD this evening which was lovely; now sitting here trying to get my head around couponing (if that is a word!) and trying to ignore the fact that I really should do some housework
My flyladying is going badly. How's things with you? Any news on job date start?
On the plus side I worked out today only 12 weeks until mat leave starts :j! I can't wait.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

I should flylady, house looks great at weekend when we blitz it but the clutter reappears as the week goes on! Job wise, had it all confirmed in writing and start date is my normal return to work date in June. Just got occupational health appointment this week which will be pointless as I won't be having the MMR they keep pestering me about! I'm b/f and do't think it's necessary!
I loved the countdown to mat leave, it keeps you going. You'll start at a lovely time of year too!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0
