Thanks! We're back and had the most amazing time. The weather was unseasonably warm so had a lovely beach day, 2 days in Legoland and a day at San Diego Zoo which was incredible. It was touch and go with the toddler whether we would be able to go, we ended up with him at an emergency doctors at 4am the morning we flew out, they said he was fit to fly but we only had half an hour back at home before we had to leave to catch our flight!
We got home yesterday evening, we're all exhausted but happy. I'd love to take the family to the states again on holiday, and I think a winter sun holiday is now on the annual list. Just seeing the kids play so happily on a beautiful beach was brilliant.
Greent, you probably missed it as I've been barely posting the last few months. I've been up to my ears in it - the baby has reflux which is very challenging! Luckily with the medicine and other treatments we've got it under control - it was a good job we hadn't been able to book the flight any earlier as I think she would have been very difficult! As it was, she was a dream.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

Just found out that due to checking in issues, we are being reimbursed all our meal and beverages costs from our 2 night stay at the hotel! Over $180 due back; it always pays to complain (politely).Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

Brilliant news. And glad you had a great time,
Squirrel xPaid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
Glad you had a fab time. Beaches seem to be fab places for making memories, would love to have our first family beach holiday next year. Dd keeps asking to go anywhere she knows a friend has gone!June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0

Hiya MW that sounds like a great holiday, so pleased that you had a good time. Winter sun is the BEST, England is so lovely in the summer it is a shame to leave it. I think the ideal is a week in November and two weeks in February. By the time you get back in February spring is just round the corner.0

Ooh, CathT, where are you thinking of? OH had Greece in mind - but when costed up roughly a holiday in August he went off the idea! Am hoping to get house tidied up by March and look at house swapping. Anyone here done that?
Toots - Nov and Feb breaks sound like a great idea - I must admit I really struggle with winter, each year seems a little worse. Australia is going to be amazing, and coming back to spring even better! What breaks do you have planned?
Builder is back, now to work on front of house. We're having it stripped back to brick at the bottom half (including a tricky layer of red dye applied to the brick), the fascias and soffices made good and repainted, and the top half of the house repainted too. The paint removal method seems like it'll work based on a test part, so hoping by end of next week it'll be all done and dustedThe builder reckons then would just need to give the wood another coat of paint in about 6 years.
OH is already talking about re-landscaping the front (i.e. building a wall and changing the floor tiles) and a new door but we've raided our savings quite hard so that'll have to wait.
Today just took delivery of hundreds of pounds worth of decorating materials from a well known premium paint supplier. Am doing a user trial thing in conjunction with a website - it was the push we needed to get our !!!!!! in gear with the room of doom. We're going a bright yellow, and dark woodwork (if we're brave enough:eek:!) We've ordered a fold out cube/bed too - with vouchers given/earned from credit card and a discount we paid £105 instead of £240 :j! And with the free paint supplies that is our only outlay so far. We're thinking of getting an ikea xmas tree so that we can get the £20 voucher and use it towards a fold down table for the room, that means it can be an office as well as a guest room. Anyone got an IKEA tree before?
The comping is going very well, just won 4 tix to W!nd in the Willows in the new year - worth £240 ! Taking DD and sister who is visiting - either brother or DD's friend as our fourth guest. It'll be my first time out without DD2.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89
