That's a great overpayment MW. I always remember that we started our diaries at a similar time

Hope you are feeling better soon, December seems to have been a terrible month for illness.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0 -

Thanks! Although still hacked off with myselfEeeeeeeeeeeep!!! So lovely to see you here again - although not so lovely that you're poorly
I think everyone will heartily agree that 6.5k op is no mean feat - add 5k of garden expenditure on and that's shed loads!
Hope you feel better soon
Xx
Great to see you too, and thanks for the good wishes. Starting to feel better - not great mind, but better. Although DD1 and OH have both been vomiting so now I'm nursemaid to two and looking after the youngest I can't admit how rough I'm still feeling :eek:
I hope the shed loads was an intentional pun
as the shed was best part of £1200 :eek:Kittenkirst wrote: »What an amazing OP you have made this year- really well done.
Looking forward to seeing your figures for 2017 of the £6.5k was not your best efforts- you'll be smashing it!!
Feel better soon
Ok all, maybe I should feel a leeetle bit more MFW about last year than I do :rotfl: although if I added up all the wasted money you'd probably be as :eek: as I do!
You're right Kittenkirst, I'm hoping for a much MUCH better year... can't quite work out how much better as my maths is non-existent at the mo (need an eye roll emoji here) but me and OH are determined to make serious inroads into mortgage this year.
However I need to balance this with other interests and family and work and just well, staying sane, so rather than set some crazy goals today that I feel I need to keep up with I want to aim to do one thing, no matter how small, towards the MSE lifestyle every day.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

Yes, and you are doing much MUCH better than me on the OPs - hopefully I can catch up a bit this year

Managed a kow key trip to the shops with the toddlers, despite still not feeling great it was lovely to spend time with them after 2 days in quarantine. I let them both walk, DS was holding DD2s hand on the street and across the road which wqs soooo sweet:A.
I bought an annual travel card to start today which is about £30 cheaper than getting it in 2 days due to price rises (and even if take into account 2 non-use days at £8.30 still a saving). I MUST remember not to use my contactless payment card now on the tube though!!! I spent the whole of last year using it for the weekly cap at £37.70... Now let's work out THAT saving!... It's about £400 cheaper buying an annual rather than a weekly, although if you take off some non-use for holidays, perhaps closer to £300.
I also bought several packs of yellow whoopsies at the shops, 75% off, for the freezer - average saving £2 a pack.
So today's savings equal £336.

I have to confess that it was entirely unintentional!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Glad you're feeling somewhat better - hope the rest of the family follow suit

Oh lord. Terrible night's sleep. Ended up doing a rough SOA and works out at current spending would be lucky to save £5k this year  Need to revisit with OH when we're both feeling better and see what we can do. Our holiday budget alone is £5k  We do have 3 foreign holidays, 1 city break and 5 UK weekend breaks planned though (combination of house swaps and wins), and that includes overseas spending money. Fell asleep about 2am and both litle DC up at 5am. Only good thing to say is at least tomorrow morning won't be as muxh of a shock!
Getting kids dressed then meeting a friend for (free) play in the park. Snacks and drinks packed.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

But the good thing from your SOA is that even with 5K holiday allowance you can still OP/ save 5k!

Very true greent! I'm currently thinking about how my MFW ways are and will be different from now on. I've had a year or two off prioritizing money saving and realized quite a few things about myself, things I want or need to do which cost money. I can't go back to the way we lived before, but I'd like to think there is a middle ground. It's starting to make some sort of sense and hopefully I will articulate it better when it does. The holidays are a prime example, after our prize holiday to San Diego (for a weekend :rotfl:) I realised how important travel is to me and now the kids are getting older I'm keen to explore the world together as much as we can - while they are still young and will spend time with us! So very fortunate we can afford to do this - and we are still trying to be careful with it! We are houseswapping and using prize wins to keep costs down (mostly :rotfl:)
Yesterday's one MSE thing - it was a NSD :j!
Today's one MSE thing - I brought leftovers into work for lunch :jMortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89

I agree, although we do try to keep peripheral holiday costs down, I won't cut down on the actual trips. It is what makes it all worthwhile for us.Paid off mortgage nine years early in 2013. Now picking and choosing our work to fit in with the rest of our lives!
Still thrifty though, after all these years:D0 -
Another late night - was ready for bed and OH started doing budgets, and talking about how we will redecorate the bedroom... Mind started whizzing and took another 2 hours to go to sleep!! This morning agreed a no life planning rule after 9pm! My main resolution this year is to sleep more as am literally exhausted all the time.
So bad start to morning, running late and no food with me. I have remembered tp cancel my booked gym class dor this evening though, avoiding a fine so that's my MSE thing today.Mortgage [STRIKE]16/03/2011: £190K 01/01/2017: £107,729.65 [/STRIKE] 01/07/2017: £95,979.89
