What suburb of Norwich has the best reputation?!

Poringland? Sprowston? Attleborough?
Anyone able to offer any advice on these areas?!0 -
In the title I should have also included villages, though not a place where we would feel isolated, needs to be a 'larger' village...0

Got a friend in Poringland - she's been there about 35 years, loves it, and wouldn't move anywhere else. It certainly looks ok - lot of building in the last few years, but that applies anywhere. Not bad American burger place (Zaks):D.
Sprowston I know well - perfectly pleasant suburb, excellent bus service; again, I know someone who's been happily living there for donkey's years. Lot of new building around Tesco.
Attleborough - OH used to live there - very busy run into Norwich in the rush hour, but I rather like it now it's got a bypass - looks to have every facility known to man. That would probably be my favourite of the three because it's got a proper centre, but that may just be what I want.
Have you looked at Blofield and Brundall, or Acle (bit of a way out, but a nice spot and decent road to the outskirts of Norwich); all of these have decent road links to the outside world (Southern Bypass), which tends to be thin on the ground in these parts.
I would also look at Dussindale, but I think I've already suggested that. Well located, and the houses I've seen (admittedly just from the main road that runs through the development) look ok. Oh, and going a bit further out, Aylsham would be my favourite on the north side. Horstead and Buxton also worth a look; Coltishall is lovely, but a tad expensive, likewise Hoveton/Wroxham.0 -
Brilliant, excellent summaries again mufi, really helpful!!
Think I will rightmove those areas and assess properties and what available...0 -
NORWICH SHORTLIST;
1. Thorpe St Andrew
2. Attleborough
3. Poringland
4. Sprowston (although north area not 1st choice)
5. ???0 -
Out of the 4 that you have chosen, Thorpe and Poringland have the best schools. Attleborough is ok-ish and Sprowston bottom in terms of schools - a little bit "rougher".
Lots of new building in all but Thorpe - as opposed to the others where the building is still going on bringing down the cost of new houses. The new houses around Tesco in Sprowston are hideous - who wants to live on a roundabout?! I can see why they are either HA or unsold! Attleborough to me has always felt a little "out on a limb".
Personally out of your list, I would go for Thorpe - you know what you are getting as the houses have been there years - and again, are unlikely to lose value, but I don't think you will get them as cheap as in the other areas due to this.
I agree about Queens Hills - avoid - but then I would also avoid Sprowston as I hate large new housing estates due to their "crammed in" nature.0 -

Sprowston is, like most large suburbs, extremely mixed and worth a look IMHO; there's certainly more to it than large new housing estates. Can't comment on the schools, as my knowledge is out of date.
I live near Thorpe - there's a fair amount of building going on in parts there as well, including business parks, and more have just been given planning ...0 -

I agree, and no I wouldn't, though my biggest reservation would be that it's open 24 hours a day. However, we are obviously blessed in that we don't have to for financial reasons. The usual trade-off is that one gets a lot of house for the money, so for some they are a good way of starting out on the long and ruinous road to property ownership.0
