Not my favourite so probably not unless in sale, also have FAR too many body butters at the moment; and Soap and Glory Flake Away Body Scrub: WIBA: maybe. Wasn't bad but so far am preferring the breakfast scrub for its lovely sweet smell and good scrubbing power!

    Hi all,

I'm a newbie to this thread...but really need to get my collection of toiletries down. I thought I was really bad til I saw some of the lists on here. Glad to see I'm not alone!

I really love Liz Earle toiletries, so it really is my aim to only use her stuff, but I need to get through masses of Soap & Glory, Aveda, Molton Brown and other brands before I'm only left with L.E.

Bring on 2012! And I'll put £1 away for every empty bottle :)

I would really like to join this challenge please. I have yet to do an inventory, partly as i have only just found this thread, partly i am a little scared to actually write down what i own.

I will only include toiletries, not make up. I know i have loads of stuff to get through and some of it i just ignore because i am not sure i like it, so buy new stuff.

I need to buy shampoo and conditioner regularly as i dont bulk buy these, but i own several pots/ tubs/ bottles etc of shower gel, body butter/ body creams/ body scrubs.

Hopefully by not buying unnecessary toiletries i can start paying more off my CC and start saving.

    Hope you will have me??

:hello: Hello to all the newbies!

Good luck with the challenge. It really helps if you post your stash list because we like to look and it will help you

a, realise the amount of your stash - you might not be aware as to just how much you have
b, identify problem/weakness areas for buying ie showergels, nail polish of my one of my many areas - hair styling products :(
c, kept track of what you UU to you can enjoy the feeling of satisfaction that only a UU can bring

No further movement in my UU or splutterers but I will have to PMNT, just not sure what colour.

Hmmmm, the website crashed after I'd just finished typing a long response and all the text was lost so I hope it doesn't happen again!

Minerva Windsong,I'll give you my honest opinion of your business idea. I'm not a nails or beauty expert but I am an accountant so I've always got an opinion about the bottom line.

I think it's an innovative and fun idea which shows imagination, but I honestly can't see how you'll make money out of it. Pickle and xoxo have already said some of this.

Firstly, what will you charge? How much would people really pay to do their own nails ? I'll be honest and say that in my case it's not much. You correctly spotted that people like to use posh brands that they couldn't necessarily afford themselves. That's both the strength and the weakness of your idea. Having lovely things that are eminently desirable and nickable is a real problem. Chanel nail varnish costs £17.50 a bottle. If I had the choice of saving up for my own or spending the same on, say, 3 visits to a DIY nail salon, the first option would win hands down. As the ladies on this thread regularly prove, owning lovely stuff is a real pleasure.

How much will you have tied up in stock? Lots, in my view. Chanel have 10 colours in their newest range. That's £175 before you even start. Add in Essie, Dior, OPI and you're talking big money. People will expect the full range and they won't pay to use Rimmel. The big companies release new colours several times a year. You'd need to have them.

How much will you use? People will want to use a base coat, a top coat and at least 2 coats of colour. How many people can you 'do' from one bottle? Remember that you can never fully use up a bottle of nail varnish because of the annoying bit at the bottom that the brush won't reach. You'd need to factor that into your calculations.

What about footfall and capacity? Where I live I know a few of the local business owners and their biggest gripe is that they are busy on Saturdays but it's more sporadic during the week. Will you open in a city centre location with lots of footfall from working people and shoppers or will you be in a suburb where you'll be quiet most of the week then manic on a Saturday? One busy day a week won't keep a business afloat and cover your overheads.

Sorry if I sound a bit negative. I don't mean to. Like I said, it's a lovely idea and I can see it lending itself to parties, hen nights etc but I don't think there's a business in it. Would be happy to be proved wrong though!
