No Buying Unnecessary Toiletries in January 2012 Challenge!

Hello, and welcome to the new girls. Being on this thread has strengthened my resolve brilliantly (although not perfectly, see below).
First, the good news (i.e. outs and UUs).
OUT went a Charles Worthington anti-humidity hairspray of dubious vintage (I suspect I've had the wretched thing for more than 7 years...not sure you can even buy it any more). I junked it because whenever I used it, it made my hair stick together and seemed to solidify it. Realised that it made me look worse than the humidity would, so gave up!
UU #1: Sanctuary face scrub. WIBA? Yes, if it was £5 off, as it was when I bought it. It's expensive for what it is at full price (£12, I think). It feels nice though, and does a good job.
UU #2: boots botanics body polish. WIBA? No. It was OK but it's another casualty in my endless quest for a properly scrubby scrub. Not enough grains! I have a Superdrug vitamin E one in the stash that I hear good things about, though.
I've got a few splutterers that I'm looking forward to getting through.
Now the bad news. I went to the retail park near work at lunchtime (mixture of cabin fever from being in the office plus first day back at work blues). Having to battle my way through a typhoon to get there made me determined to make the trip count, if you see what I mean. Went into Boots but there was nothing I wanted in the sale. Noticed that they had loads of the S&G sets with the apron and the French Connection black bags were crammed on the sale shelves in enormous quantities. So escaped scot free, then I went into the M&S outlet and it went a bit wrong. Ended up buying moisturiser endorsed by Tess Daly (why??? I can't stand her) for £6. On the plus side, it is SPF15 and M&S skincare is always good. Also succumbed to body wash for £3 called "les senteurs" in lemon and herb, which smells lovely and comes in a really nice vintage-looking tube. So not the best start to 2012; I bought the things I've already got too much of (shower gel and moisturiser). I blame the weather!0 -

Aww they are cute, I tried to persuade BF I needed one and could save my toiletries money in it but he made me hurry up and escape the shop. A UU to report Body Lishuss cranberry body scrub. WNBA as not too scrubby through another is in the stash from the Christmas stocking. Do however like the body butter that came with it:)Debt free and busy treating myself:)
No more toiletries/make up until I've used what I've got stashed since Jan 2011, graduated October 2012. Restocked Dec 13..damn those sales0 -
Welcome all the newbies. xkiplingmonkey wrote: »I am also going to try to restrct myself to a maximum of 1 QVC TSV a month - Elemis this weekend so if I succumb to that then that will be it for the month. Any ideas what will be in the TSV?
Welcome back kiplingmonkey. Does your name reveal you have a thing for Kipling bags?
It is rumoured on ST.com (most of the info on there got form Keeley Aydin (guest presenter for Elemis on QVC) on Facebook) that the TSV will contain a full sized pot of Cellular Bliss Capsules, Super sized cleanser and toner (ie 400mls each) and a 30ml pot of Pro Collagen Oxygenating night cream all for the price of the Cellular Bliss Capsules alone which are £60.00. A kit on QVC for the 2 x cleanser and toner is £50.00 so it is very good value. I'm thinking though of telling MrM just to buy me the cleanser/toner from somewhere else as a lot of websites are selling the standard 200ml sizes reduced as I don't really rate the Bliss Capsules nor do I need them and have a pot of the Oxygenating Night Cream already.evilsquid1603 wrote: »i know this is probably aiding and abetting but VALM, HQHair have sent an email saying they have 20% off Elemis, with PCMC £61.28 a pot.
Cheers evilsquid. Will pass the info to MrM.Next thing you know, I'm on the Debenham's website to see if I can see what these magical Elemis sets are like/contain. I know I have a £5 debenhams voucher hiding somewhere and so I might as well put it to good use... right... (insert face palm here...!):rotfl:
And then someone posts about an Elemis TSV this weekend... it's like a conspiracy...
So... someone either talk me out of the temptation, or if it is in fact such an amanzing deal that I'd be stupid not to buy it, equally, please tell me. I dare not google any more Elemis prices/sets/comparisons because I'll talk myself into it at full price....!!!!
Hope everyone is well and coping with the back to work blues xxx
See above re: Elemis TSV. It's only a bargain if you use all the products. Like I said I wouldn't use the Bliss Capsules.
No more UUs for me for the mo however I have decided that each time I use something up I'll post on here how many of that particular item I have in my stash and maybe be able to get a full stash list together this way. Don't have the time or inclination to do it all in one go. I did dig out all my nail lacquers on Monday to see if I had a colour similar to the new Sephora by OPI one I am wearing (Don't Feed the Hand Models). I listed all the bottles and counted them and - get ready - I have 94! I do have a similar one to Don't Feed .... phew!
Went to our local Yankee Candle outlet on Monday too and indulged in my other obsession! They had loads of Christmas fragrances at half price so it would have been rude not to. Even bought my first Christmas present for this year.:money:
Am gonna go now. Want to soak in the bath and try my new Elemis Open Mind Bath Elixir. Am so tired after my first day in my new job. There's another thing - the area I have moved to for work doesn't seem to have any nice shops. Went out for a quick stroll at lunch to blow away the cobwebs (quite literally as the wind was still gale force) and found no shops of interest nearby. Went into a card shop to buy some stamps and a charity shop which was selling various items from the Boots Extracts range but I simply walked back out.Back for the No Buying Toiletries challenge. I pledge to only buy when I run out of a product that is not already in my stash no matter what wonderful emails land in in my Inbox or threads I read on MSE re: glitches!

Aww - you guessed my other obsession - Kipling and Radley bags - altho'I have to say I am not liking the new style Radley so perhaps that could be one addiction under control at last!
Thanks for the info on the TSV - I love the oxygenating night cream but prefer the Elemis pro-radiance cleanser to the other Elemis cleansers so perhaps I will resist - I will keep thinking of your sound advice VALM - "it is only a bargain if you use the products" - that will have to be my mantra on Sunday!
Another UU today - an Estee Lauder double wear mascara that was a GWP - I liked this and it did lengthen my lashes but I still have 16 other mascaras to UU before I am in the market for buying more!
Went to Boots today but managed to resist accumulating more stuff for my stash - I saw the S&G set with the apron - I quite like the apron so am going to see if I can snap one up when/if the 75% sale is on. Did buy a Philosophy shower gel for £7 reduced from £14 which I will keep as a gift for one of my friends. There was loads left in the sale in my local Boots including loads of the FCUK gift of the week weekend bags so I am sure they will have to reduce further to shift the stuff.0 -
*waves at Sarah*A* - I've stayed on the wagon but had masses going on at the end of the year so really didn't have time to give to the thread as well....back now though, and committed (or should be!).
And - that was a great summary of the year!
It's great to see so many of the old gang still lurking about on here - amazing to think we've "known" each other through these threads for two years now, isn't it! I've just done a bit of digging and if anyone is interested then HERE is Katie Clampet's original thread. I wonder if she realises what she started?! :rotfl:
My aim for this year is really just to continue as I have been - not buying stuff I don't need, and using up one thing (mostly) before starting on the next. Also to make the effort to wear perfume on a daily basis (I've been quite good about this) and to continue to wear makeup daily (I'm in grave danger of finishing an eyeliner!) and to try to paint my nails at least once a week.🎉 MORTGAGE FREE (First time!) 30/09/2016 🎉 And now we go again…New mortgage taken 01/09/23 🏡

Hi all,
I've heard the thread mentioned several times and I'm at the point where I have 2 plastic storage units filled with toiletries and the overspill is starting to invade my large towel/linen closet and I have no space so my aim is to get the stash down to a few of each item. I won't be including make-up in this, I would be here till 2013 just getting it all counted if i wereso that can remain a home challenge.
i need to get everything out and count how much i have of everything, I know I have 40 shower gels but I then received 2 large soap and glory kits along with a couple of gift sets at Christmas so it's more than that now.
I'm ashamed at how much I have! I will be back with a list.Credit Card: £796 Left/£900 October 2011 :eek:Store Card: £100 October 2011

Welcome all newbies!
UU Naked bodybuilding shampoo WNBA I had high hopes as its nasty free but my scalp had other ideas and it made me itch! Also I didn't find it did much bodybuilding even though I have long hair I thought it might feel a bit thicker.
Has anyone here tried the new No7 BB cream? I am tempted to buy some but do have a couple of tubes of the Garnier one and the No 17 one to get through first.......0 -

Essex, you legend! I went looking for the original thread this morning and couldn't find it. Thanks!
And yes, I am one of the 'originals' and I think I will be here for at least one more..maybe two! :rotfl:
Happy using up, ladies. I wish I could find my original list (on external hard drive due to messed up laptop) to edit and post it, but for now you shall just have to take my word for it that the stash is ash! :rotfl:Please call me 'Pickle'

Now I would usually go along with the sentiment of the challenge, but I think I might need to ditch my current shampoo and conditioner in favour of something else. I have always had quite thick unruly hair which always shed a bit but now it's coming out quite a bit more and my hair is noticeably thinner. I think its a combination of things like diet and stress. I don't blow dry my hair or straighten or curl it. I usually just wash and put in a bun and go to work. However I have started washing it in the evening so I'm not stressing it out too much when it's wet. I have used the Redken Extreme CAT treatment and it seems to be doing something so I'm thinking on getting some more Redken Extreme products and the all soft shampoo and conditioner and heavy cream and seeing what happens. I am also thinking I might go and have about 4 or 5 inches cut off my hair next week to see if cutting down the weight of my hair helps.
Oh and I've started taking my muti-vitamin again to see if that helps.Emergency Fund - £8572.39 / £10,000 :: Mortgage OP 2025 - £LISA 24/25 - £3200 / £4000 :: NSD 2025 - 2 / 150 :: Books Read: 1 / 52 :: Decluttering - 4 / 1000Engaged 9th December 2010 :: Married 29th October 2015 :: Bought a House 13th January 20170
