My advice to anyone would be not be bother buying the FON router. It is not worth it, unless you do a lot of travelling and like to sit outside peoples houses with your laptop (might look a bit dodgy though). For one, the router is unstable especially with Intel Wireless chips, mine dropped signal every 3 mins!! Secondly it is not even a proper router, it has no LAN ports at all only a WAN port!!! If anyone still wants to try one I will send them mine for £15 which comes with standard FON software or DD-WRT super software.

Indeed, I would be queer-faced if someone came upto me asking me to adjust my wireless router so that they could have a better signal. :rotfl:

The current promo means no more free routers - only subsidised ones (€20 instead of €34.44) if you're invited.
After using La Fonera router for a few months I'm happy with it. The range is pretty good compared to the one Sky gave me and some guy down the street is buying a day-pass now and again so I've turned "Bill" to try to make some money. The money isn't much after taxation and fees are applied by Fon (€3 less €0.87). You get 50% so that's €1.07 per pass. They only pay out after you've accumulated €30 and then paypal take their cut. In a good month for me it might just pay for half the broadband bill.

Fully compatible with Virgin Cable, as their modem's have a Ethernet connection

Is there still an offer / deal from Fon?

I have seen an option to login as a Fonera user on a BT OpenZone - does that allow Fonera users in the UK to login for free or is there a charge?

If anyone happens to know if the French partner with Fon allows free usage to Fonera users as that would certainly seal the deal for me... OldB.
