Seems a fantastic idea, I've ordered one, but was sad to read the hotukdeals thread where a lot of people were talking about using it but preventing others from using theirs. I'll use it with my current router to provide the wired ports that I still need0

I don't think you can stop 'others' using it unless they're reflashing the firmware which is against the whole idea0 -
Hello
I've ordered one of these and, having read the posts here, I have a vague idea of what it is, I confess that I'm not altogether sure though!
I'm currently connected with a cable to broadband through my NTL set top box.
Can I use this wireless router with my current internet provider? Is it just that other users can wirelessly connect using my connection and I can connect using other FON users connection if I happen to be near enough to one of them?
What does Bill, Linus & Alien mean?
I probably have other questions but that'll do for now! Anyone who can help or point me in the right direction would be much appreciated - in plain English please!
Thank you so much

hi guys
i'm new to the forum but have been reading regularly.
Just got the La Fonera router only to find that is not compatible with my ADSL modem provided by TalkTalk (neither will it compatible with any other modem that doesn't have LAN ports).
however, I do have 2 free LAN ports on my desktop, and tried to fiddle around with those with no luck. Does anyone (techies !) know if I can use these ports to set-up a wireless hotspot? (my OS is WinXP SP1) THANKS in advance.0 -
I have a wireless laptop and a wireless card in my pc. Does this mean that I will be able to go totally wireless and will be able to use this as a wireless router for free by plugging it into my DSL Telewest modem? If so I am :j0

Josh I got an PDF emailed to me with all the order details etc.... so you should have got one also. If you did not may be worth trying to order again just in caseJosh2003 wrote:yeah you should be able to use it to go totaly wireless..

Current wireless signals are relatively weak. Usually they only go about 30 metres unless you have a MIMO or something so will this Fonera thing work??? Does it have any kind of amplifification in its transmission that will give it a greater range compared to a normal router???? Looking at the specs I doubt it so only use to many will be as a free wireless router and to the lucky few who live in urban centres0
