The website is in the US.

Will they still deliver to the UK and the service etc all work over here?

    hi guys
i'm new to the forum but have been reading regularly.

Just got the La Fonera router only to find that is not compatible with my ADSL modem provided by TalkTalk (neither will it compatible with any other modem that doesn't have LAN ports).

however, I do have 2 free LAN ports on my desktop, and tried to fiddle around with those with no luck. Does anyone (techies !) know if I can use these ports to set-up a wireless hotspot? (my OS is WinXP SP1) THANKS in advance.

NO, As stated it will only work on NTL : Telewest : Virgin or a ISP that supplies a Modem with Ethernet / Lan connection

Yes, You can now be totally wireless with your FONera

I blame the time of night for not spotting that :)

    Thankyou.
  • Do I have to use the router to share my connection indefinably? When can I wipe the firmware to another?

No you cannot connect it to the computer that way as it needs an internet signal from your modem which it transmits! See if you can find an adaptor: one end of which goes into your ADSL modem (?RJ 11) and the other is a standard network plug which normally goes into a LAN port in the computer but in this case you would put it into the Fonera LAN slot. I am sure such a thing will exist. If not feel free to post your Fonera to me:D

How long does it take before people recieved their FONERA?

Yes I realised it needs an internet signal, and set-up my LAN port to share the internet connection on my desktop, (works fine when I plug in my laptop directly to the LAN port) but I suppose they're not exactly the same type of signal! Thanks for the idea, will look for it. If that still doesn't work, then i'll let you / the board know, and you're free to have mine!

Current wireless signals are relatively weak. Usually they only go about 30 metres unless you have a MIMO or something so will this Fonera thing work??? Does it have any kind of amplifification in its transmission that will give it a greater range compared to a normal router???? Looking at the specs I doubt it so only use to many will be as a free wireless router and to the lucky few who live in urban centres

They're selling booster antennas separately on the fon website.
