VALUE FOR MONEYmaggiesoop wrote: »Hello friends, we've just booked our flights from beautiful Scotland, north of the United Kingdom, to California and really looking fwd to it. We plan to visit Las Vegas on 24 December for a few days and now need some advice please...
Son is only 19 so can't get into casinos. Not planning to go there during the day but is there anywhere he might like to hang out for a couple of hrs in the evening while we place a few bets?
Also, I'll do my homework on hotels on the strip (and whilst not remotely religious) we will be in LV on Christmas Day, can anyone recommend a "blow your mind" hotel view that would be great for the Big Day?
Ta very much
Mags
he can get in to casinos, infact he will have a hard job avoiding them, just cant gamble or drink.
If he trys to play any table games he will get ID,d just as he will if he trys to buy any drink.
He may get away with sitting at a slot, as long as he doesnt win big
To be honest i am not sure where a 19 year old would hang out on his own in the evening apart from his room or maybe head downtown and he could stroll up and down freemont street while you gamble.
IMO for anyone between about 16 and 21 Vegas is the worst destination0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYunless something has changed some car hire agencies do charge one-way fees between CA and NV...we booked a one-way rental through CH3000 a few years ago and called or emailed to check on the one-way fee (as on the booking form it said that there may be one, we would be advised what it was and could then decide if we wanted to proceed or not)...in that case there was one...and CH3000 swapped us to a different agency without a one-way fee...was slightly more expensive ($12 or $18) but much cheaper than the one-way fee would have been which was $250 or thereabouts I think.
Just checked and a dummy booking from LA to Vegas on CH3000 does come up with:
Additional one-way fees may apply to this rental; any applicable fees will be advised on receipt of the reservation request. No payment will be taken without your acceptance.
CH3000 has always been cheaper for us than netflights but I know others have found it the other way around so worth checking.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

Thanks for your TR! I also thought Lotus if Siam was the best Thai food I have ever had and a lot of people agree...I would really like to try to make a trip over there this time around.
On player's cards, it may not be worth it for everyone - but since it is free to join.
With this in mind, it does seem pointless to sign up for the reward cards that the casinos offer. Last time I checked I had accumulated 27 cents on my total rewards card and there are no offers currently in terms of rooms being discounted etc… Perhaps this will change but the discounts at the restaurants don’t have much value to me.
We never get offers but we can normally get rooms comped at most Vegas hotels by logging in, then going to reservations, choosing our dates...worth looking at least to see if there are any discounted rooms available that way...just because you do not have any offers doesn't mean that there are no discounts available.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -

I think I'll buy this one for our February trip.:D
You can pre order it from amazon, http://www.amazon.co.uk/American-Casino-Guide-2013-Edition/dp/1883768225/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1350302134&sr=8-1
Current price £10.66 but Amazon's pricing moves up and down so you may get a better price.
Thanks for links
Shame that the value of the coupons seems to get worse every year0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYRe slot clubs.
It is worth signing up for the free play alone. Many give at least $5-10 when you sign up and you can get considerably more. My mum and dad only played the free play through and got free nights for their next trip. That was 2007-8 so in the depths of the recession, but even now the can get a discounted rate, and they haven't visited for two years.0 -
HOTELSWell the most utmost thing I consider always about Las Vagas is just awesome looking hotels. So, if ever I am going to plan for Las Vagas is just because of Hotels..0
