We tend to dress up when we are fine dining, which is a few times per trip. Hubby wears dress trousers and a long sleeved shirt, but no tie. There is a photo of him wearing a suit at Mon Ami Gabi, but that was because he bought it there, not because he brought it with him. The same or more casual for a mid-range place and casual for buffets.
Never heels though, no way could I hike to a restaurant in heels.
I also don't get that people didn't enjoy their meal because the people at the next table weren't dressed to the nines. I'm not a people watcher and couldn't give a flying fig what anyone else was wearing and I never notice anyway.0 -
Think this is a bit OTT, but I'm sure there are people who would part with good money for it.

Luxor is at the far end, so do you enjoy walking?
Planet Hollywood. Uhm, no. Workmate just came back. Drunks sleeping it off in the hallways and she and her group just didn't like it. There are a lot of vacancies in that hotel and it has one of the cheapest rates going. Are you travelling with someone? Look at tripadvisor.com for their reviews. Seems to be popular with the springbreak demographic.0 -

Thanks. Don't mind walking but would rather be in the middle of it. Where would you recommend? I'm going with my husband (we're visiting relations in Long Beach first and then hiring a car and going off for 10 days or so and then back to LA to fly home). If I had known then what I know now . . .

What is your budget per night and are you there over a weekend as weekend rates are at least double Sun-Thurs?0

SHOPPINGI've stayed in the Tropicana (roughly across the street from the Luxor), the Excalibur (next door to the Luxor), Paris and a friend's condo.
Paris is mid-strip. We had the concierge package and the room looked out on the strip and fountains. Nice. However we were down there this past April (stayed in the condo) and went to Paris for lunch. Was huge disappointment. First time I've ever sent food back and the Kir Royales were flat. Don't know how the rooms are doing now.
The Excalibur is clean and comfy as is the Tropicana. Nothing flashy. The Excalibur is kitchy but can be fun.
I'm staying at the Venetian later this year. I pulled out of PH after hearing about my co-workers experience. I'd wanted to stay at the Venetian but it isn't cheap. But I liked the building and the restaurants on other trips.
Be brave what do you want, never mind what people tell you you should want. I've never had the urge to have a balcony in Vegas. I just want a clean, safe room with a nice bathroom that's safe and central.0 -

MB IMHO. So long as you know its a looooong walk to mid-strip, but the various mini-trains will get you there eventually (never been to Palms, but thats a similar walk but without the trains).illegitimi non carborundum0
