Thanks. I've seen people mention a couple of times of going to Walmart from the Platinum.

Is there one near Boulvevard Mall? I will have a look at the Walmart site, but I can be directionally challenged at times!

There is one on Eastern (I think) towards the airport my guess is that is the closest but not walkable, but then platinum to the strip is a challenge for me. :D

we want to use the iphone as a camera but worried about roaming charges, if I leave in flight safe mode will this prevent us from any unwanted charges? were going to get a call card or something over there.
you want to disable data roaming - go to "settings -> general -> network" and make sure that you don't have data roaming on.... obviously you could still receive calls then (which you'd get charged for if you accepted them)

as you say, leaving it in flight mode though will make certain you won't be charged for anything (and you could still manually turn wifi on if you wanted to)
also to cosmopolitan hotel does anyone know roughly how much it will cost in a taxi from the airport? how much should we tip is it a certain percentage of the cost for a tip?
    :D
I think there's advice on 'tipping' percentages on the first page, as well as a link that will give you an estimate for taxi costs :)

We normally do as we would do with regards to tipping taxis. Either around 20% or rounding up to the nearest 'tenner' (ie. if it drops in at $17.30 we'd just give a $20). To be honest, they deserve a better tip off me for managing to hoik the missus' luggage into the boot ;)

Lesley, is Walmart within walking distance of the Platinum or can you get there on the bus?

The only Walmart we've been to was on t she road between FSM and TI (Spring Mountain?)

No Luci, not walkable we took the car. I mean I know I like a wee walk....but that's a bit much...and definitely not with all the coke zero, beer etc. Oh and I think our cheese slices would have been all stuck together by the time we got back lol :rotfl:

There are various different types of Walmart so depends what you are looking for which one you want to go to. We usually go to the one on Charleston about 4000 or so West, there's also a Michael's beside it but not much else. We used to go to one on West Tropicana on the bus, but when I checked yellow pages there was no mention, so we just decided to go to Charleston - although further away we could take the I-15 so not too time consuming really. We did 550 miles in the car in total Just under 300 of that was the drive across from LA, so I guess we (well I) did quite a lot of driving.

Went over last night to see about tickets for Matt Goss, was sold out so we bought tickets for tonight. Was only $40 exactly each, seems they didn't add any taxes or fees. Looked at ticketmaster and they were over $50 on there. :j Only problem is we had got dressed up a bit for it, and now need to do the same today. It's also brunch day so we would have gone out early and stayed out but now we can't. Looks like we'll be out, back for a change and then out again. That said, think we'll do brunch at Bellagio then it's just Caesar's for Matt Goss, so we are at least heading for the closest part of the strip.

We got very good drink service in Flamingo last night. We also got a drink right away in Caesars. In Flamingo we were heading into Margaritaville and then decided to look for Carlos & Charlie's but we never made it there. We saw cocktail waitresses in the Margaritabille Casino area first and stopped there. Waitress recognised our Scottish accents right away (so far we've been asked if we're Irish quite a bit). Turns out she used to live in Preston. Was quite funny though, at one of the buffets earlier in the week one of the desk staff asked us where we were from then proceeded to ask us if we knew someone. I take it she though Scotland was smaller than it actually is ha ha.

    Thanks Lesley.

Looking forward to hearing what you thought of Matt Goss. We have toyed with seeing him, but he has always been on the night we arrive and the following night. No point getting tickets as the show is so late I would be asleep before it started.

We have been asked if we are Australian. or German. We have a strong dialect and accent which is nothing like the Central Belt Scottish accent so it really confuses them.

Latvian...that's a new one. What makes them think they know what Latvian would sound like lol

We usually get asked if we're German when in Spain etc, but only once or twice in Vegas.

I had a little trouble understanding you Luci and I'm a fellow Scot. You are right, there's quite a difference in accent up your way. My friend lives in Aberdeen and her partner is from there and sometimes I have no idea what he's saying. He does also speak Doric though which doesn't help. I have to get my friend to translate at times. :rotfl:

We spoke to a couple from Aberdeen when we were on a cruise last year, but they didn't have strong accents. The girl said she could hear herself starting to talk like us when she was talking to us :D

Currently by the pool, a la stoneman!
only downsides so far are the Vdara WiFi and my new T-Mobile sim. Can get the hotel WiFi everywhere apart from the room! Hoping for a resort fee waive in that case.
Signed up for T-Mobile $3/day payg, so I can use data but only able to get phone network connection.

does anyone know if Vdara runs a complimentary shuttle bus to north/south outlets? Looked there was one outside yesterday
