CASINOSWell im glad we are getting some "honest" reviews now. Why doesnt anyone mention the clubs, poker rooms etc in this thread. Im aware this is MSE but hang on, we are talking Vegas here.
Vegas will never be MSE all the time it costs you £600+ just to get there.
Im just saying the whole thread has become rather stale, regulars reviewing the same hotels and giving the impression its the best choice for anyone.
When you big up a hotel and your a regular poster people will take your word for it.
I would hate to to vegas for the first time and stay at the O or similar only to realise when i got there that it wasnt my idea of Vegas.
Why not give a real review, like saying how long it would take to walk to say bellagio or even the strip.
Saying you can cut through Ballys via the sportsbook or whatever gives the impresion that its a short trip when in fact it could be a 20-30 min walk.0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYOrleans also has a cinema (but probably no one wants to go to a movie when in Vegas except us)...you can go buy popcorn and take it back to the casino...been there done that. And bowling...still haven't been bowling but one day maybe.
A movie at Orleans or Palms is a must do for us every trip. Last autumn trip (8 weeks) we went six times. Each one was to see a movie that wouldn't we opening in th UK until after we got home.0 -

i'll be honest baza any questions i have asked have been answered really well and approximate times given etc, i got alot of help from people on this thread as to where to stay etc i think without their help my experience wouldve been much worse ( i spose even that is possible:) lol) , for example i couldve stayed at a hotel on the strip ... sheesh they would need to lock the windows to stop me from jumping out :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
i am glad i found this thread and had the help i did and for that i am grateful :beer:0 -
CASINOSWe've had BBQ on the strip a number of places for a heck of a lot more money and none have been a patch on EI ribs...but since it's 'value BBQ" so I guess that means it is no good?
Maybe you should try them, just to see? Or would they just not be good because the restaurant is at EI? We go to a range of restaurants each trip, from quite cheap to quite expensive...EI ribs are still one of the only 'must dos' every trip...and the meal my in-laws still talk about every time Vegas is brought up...and my FIL always says EI was his favorite casino, because it was small and different to the rest...I think he felt he could just hang out and be himself there...so...
I'd also like to know where in London you could find a Vegas-style casino? I live in London...there ain't any.
Also, don't most people here recommend that first timers look to stay on the Strip? I think we do...only when people start going on about things that are very hard to come by on the Strip do people normally suggest off-strip places...or as photome says when Strip prices are too high because of weekends or events, then people suggest other alternatives.
Part of what makes this thread great is there are so many people who have been so many times that they can perhaps suggest things an average first-timer may not even know exists...rather than leaving them to stay at and visit all the usual stuff that is touted in guide books, etc. And yes while the thread was set up on MSE after all, and while a lot of people will be looking for moneysaving options, that is not all that's discussed here by a long-shot. But read trip reports of people who did no research - one thing they will complain about is how everything is 'so expensive'...because if you don't know where to look, it kind of is...and not everyone wants to shell out a load of cash for everything every day.
What makes the casino in Orleans any different to Aspers, Mecca etc in london?
So your In Laws like it. My old mum likes Sausage n bacon pudding (me too) and if she went to vegas she would be more than happy to eat it. Does not mean it should be recomended to everyone.
I had never heard of the Orleans before reading this thread. Im amazed by the ammount of people that seem to have stayed there and it can only be through people recomending it here.
I just wonder how many of those peoples expectations were far more than what they got.
Young people want to go to shoot guns, clubbing, pool parties gambling and drinking.0 -

19th trip coming up and we have still never paid £600 for a flight. £594 was close for next year though. Spread over seven weeks, it works out quite reasonable though.
I didn't stay in a strip hotel until my sixth trip.0 -

I could probably get a download link for any film you saw there, not to mention the fact that the airline probably has the film for you to watch.
If we are honest i cant see many people going to vegas and spending time watching films.0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYThere's a bit of difference between a download and a movie theatre, but whatever.....
Ferf and hubby, my OH and I like to go, so does duchy. I'm sure we are not alone.0 -

So what was your initial reason to go to vegas?
What attracted you?
Are you a "typical" Vegas visitor? or a more mature traveller that likes sun and home comforts?
I can recommend Benidorm, lots of cheap places to eat, Kebab shops, pizza and pot noodles. not to mention the disability scooters you can hire and pg tips in the the local shops.

Thats the problem here. your little "click" are too old to give a real view of vegas.
Its like a little club you have going here.
If spain showed Eastenders a week in front to the UK would that be a good reason to go there? of course not.
Are you really saying one of the reasons you go to vegas is to watch films in a cinema? are you sure your not just watching them cos the hotel is sooooo boring and your killing time?0
