VALUE FOR MONEYfor those who like military aircraft and such things, may be worth checking this schedule for dates that coincide with your trip.

This does better explain all the planes we saw while at the speedway the days leading up to the NASCAR race early March last year.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
CASINOSYou will be fine. Hard pressed to find a bad hotel in Vegas anyway. NYNY is my favorite looking hotel ever. Although some might say you are a bit south of the centre of the strip, you are still walking distance to it. But you do have a nice area anyway, easy walk over to MGM and the new look Tropicana. Catch the free monorail at Excalibur (I wouldn't bother going in there) to Luxor and have a look at the worlds largest man made atrium, then hop back on and go to Mandalay Bay. There that should keep you happy for a bit.

VALUE FOR MONEYHi all , happy new year,
Now is the time to start booking for this year as I have just found a great deal for flights on Netflights , Aberdeen to Los Angeles via heathrow for £528 each , now the big decision , do I get the 1 hour internal flight for sweeties , or do I drive.
I can get a car for about $50 - $60 airport pick up to las vegas airport drop off , but I have never driven in the states, but quite fancy it and as the flight arrives at 13.00 so a 5 hour drive is no problem, the question is how easy is it to drive in the states for the first time especially getting out of L A and onto the I15, anyone done it.I eat time share touts for breakfast 2 for 10 -
VALUE FOR MONEYwe've driven from LA to Vegas - once we got out of the greater LA area it was a breeze...the LA area was a bit more scary (much more traffic mostly) but not too bad...I found it a bit stressful but I know others here haven't. I personally would not want to do it after such a long flight, but that's just me...travelling and driving tend to tire me out.
It isn't a complicated route, but having a satnav with US maps might be reassuring, though if it's just for this one drive might not be cost effective.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
We drove from LA to Vegas last year and absolutely loved it. Would do it again without hesitation.
However I would also echo Ferf's comments regarding sat nav and doing it immediately after the flight.0 -
We did Vegas to LA and it was really easy......ie right at Caesars, left at lights, drive straight for 300 miles, arrive LAX.
Dont forget Peggy Sues Diner on the way.illegitimi non carborundum0 -
The Palms seems very cheap at the min for the dates of our stay...is it anygood? Off strip location not a problem to us. Considering the first 2 nights there before we move to the Orleans then the Mirage.0

I love driving in the USA and have driven La to Vegas a few times.
From landing to getting to Vegas is more likely to be 8 hours plus, as you have to clear immigration, get to car hire depot, and then the hardest part, getting out of LA as the airport is the opposite side of LA to Vegas.
Given the time difference you would be arriving in Vegas after 5am UK time. IMO you would be mad to do it after such a long flight, much better to have 1 or 2 nights in LA first0 -
