You can choose seats as soon as you book.

Virgin announced months ago that their seat selection system would be suspended due to an update in progress ;)

Now there's an update which is slightly good news
We announced in January 2012 that we would be making some changes to the way we assign seats in advance, to make our system more reliable.

In order to do this, we switched off advance seat assignment for all flights departing from 1 November 2012.

Unfortunately, the project is taking us a longer than we originally hoped and we have not yet been able to fix all the issues. However, we recognise that many customers were frustrated at not being able to select seats in advance and we appreciate that seat selection is an important part of the flight experience. So we’ve made the decision to switch the advance seat assignment system back on. This means customers can now choose their seats from 90 days before their day of departure.

This facility is now available to all passengers, in all classes, except Premium Economy on our leisure routes. You can select your seat through our website or the travel agent you booked through.

So you may-(or may not  )be able to select seats.

Re people liking Vegas for different things and some not liking it at all.

My brother and SIL are going to Vegas next week for 9 nights. They don't do sunbathing, don't gamble (not even the slots), aren't foodies and not much into shopping. They are going just to chill out and a holiday resort in Europe would be their idea of hell.

Will they like it? They must do as this is their third visit although they haven't been for 5 years.

The are staying in a 750 suite at Mandalay Bay and a wraparound suite at the Cosmopolitan.

i guess there will be alot to see. they could goto the canyon or do some activities (we LOVED scoot city) 9 nights might be a bit too much for them though if don't like eating/gambling/sunbathing etc

so that's why we still cannot select our seats for October as we're flying PE next time...thanks for the update...I knew I wasn't going mad, thank you for confirming...we have flown with virgin quite a few times and I understand that historically we have been able to select seats at the time we book our tickets (and yes, baza, I know they can move you, they have before :)).
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

We have twice eaten at the Steakhouse at CC and the place is is really nice, service was excellent. Very much a feel of a gentleman's club, and you can see the cuts of meat aging in the humidor? So what if it's in CC. The only problem I have with steaks in Vegas is that they are actually too big. I had the same thing at Austins, by the time you are half way through a nice rib-eye or NY strip it goes cold. A $34 Fillet Mignon at MAG is much better in my opinion.
But if you like steak I agree with Froggitt

I agree that the restaurant itself is really nice (though there are others we prefer, not necessarily for a wedding though - Envy and Austins come to mind), just think that getting to the restaurant as part of a wedding celebration might be a bit less nice than some other options is all...

  • we are flying out on thursday from Heathrow with BA.
Can anyone recommend 'decent' seats? We dont mind waiting at immigration if we are last of the plane etc!
OH will snooze most of the flight, unfortunately I will be wide awake as usual!
Are they many sets of 2 seats? Last time we went there were 4 of us, so it wasnt an issue!
Is it bad that I dont want to sit beside a stranger?! Or have to squeeze past to get to the loo?! lol!!

There are 6 pairs of seats at the back. I was lucky enough to snag a pair for our outward flight in May at the 24 hour check in point. However there were none available for the return.

Pairs for both legs already selected for our flight next year.

So I had to book two separate bookings for me and my hub as was the best way with my miles apparantly?! Anyway it was proving difficult to select seats online with two bookings so I called Virgin, they said that there are no two seats available together, no availability to upgrade to PE, however I could upgrade to Upper if I 'fancied it'?! Er yes but I'm not rich! We fly on 25-28 October from Manchester and its an old plane as confirmed by Customer Service, I've read some AWFUL reviews and am now scared!! Crap food, no drinks, broken seats, rude staff aaaggghh! Please put my mind at rest someone..... I know I just need to keep checking for seats together so hopefully that part will be ok:(

We went Virgin this March, despite the reviews, in truth, it was fine.
The food was no worse than others on the way out, but admittedly poor on way back, they ran out of alcoholic drinks on way out, but we were picking up a car so it didn't bother us, soft drinks were fine.
The seat back entertainment had a problem showing films, but I was either asleep, reading or listening to ipod, so also no problem.
The plane itself is not that old, just a tired cabin, reading some of the reviews, I was expecting, gaffa tape, smells and technical problems. None of which happened, it was on time leaving, on time coming home.
All the staff were lovely, both flights.
    Will definitely do it again.
  • Hi

I flew in March too with Virgin and it was fine. I thought the food was good by airplane standards - served pud & coffee separately and there was a welcome cocktail.

Also liked the ice cream and hot sos rolls during the films. Yes they ran out of alcohol after 4 hours but by then I'd had 3 G&Ts and you don't wanna arrive in LV hammered owing to the time difference and the drinking when you arrive! For me it was perfectly fine and I've flown Delta, BA and AA to NYC before. Enjoy!
