CASINOS
A note on staff - they are extremely polite, helpful and happy - even the room maids.
The gaming floor is huge but as a non smoker was not happy that smoking is freely allowed.
Ouch, I dont like overweight people but everyone is allowed to play.
The hotel has a vast number of restaurants and I would say these are expensive compared to other hotels and restaurants on or just off the strip.
Thats the beauty of Vegas, all the hotel restaurants in hotels are expensive. Thats why stripburger etc are popular.
We were on a virgin package and were offered the chance to pay a resort fee that would give us use of the gym and wifi. Unbelievable that one is expected to pay for wifi. We had previously stayed in 8 hotels on this trip including one in New York - this was the first place where wifi was not free. We did discover that free wifi was available by the Wynn Pool if sitting close to the towel person.
Whats the problem? sounds like you had a choice?
The rooms at the Wynn are fantastic - really 5 star. However be careful about the mini bar and the snack tray as they are pressure sensitive and you will be charged if you move anything. We bought beer and wine outside and chilled it using the ice bucket and free ice.
Our biggest gripe about the hotel was the very very loud disco that often goes on until 5.00am. Two of our party had rooms on the golf course side on the 35th floor and could not sleep due to the disco. We were on the strip side and had no issues. This was a huge issue - the hotel gave my sister a $200 bar credit because of the noise. You would not expect an issue like this in a 5 star hotel - even in Vegas.
Overall a very nice hotel despite the issues mentioned.
Did you mention your problems to the front desk? Im suprised they didnt offer you another room.0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYJust finishing a 4 night stay at the Wynn Hotel and thought a short report might be helpful.
Arrived by Taxi from the airport car rental return - cost $22. First impression of the Wynn is that it is amazing both in scale and in the quality of presentation. Second impression was not so good - a 30 minute wait in line to check in. Not very 5 star given the hotel know how busy they are going to be and should be increasing staff levels.

Thats a little unfair as the OP did say they were strip side and had no noise whereas their sis did complain and got $200 credit...I would have asked to move
I like the Wynn and have had a room on the 30ish floor golf side and never heard a thing.
But being as Vegas is a party town I have had noise at many other places including partys in adjacent rooms especially at weekends
I had some free hand made chocs delivered to my room on my birthday when I stayed there
30 mins does seem a long time to check in, I think I only waited minutes when I stayed there but I know it happens (over 2 hours last week at all MGM properties due to system problems) Can they have more staff on check in? probably but how do they know when its going to be the busiest time as people are checking in/out 24/7, I guess they should know?0 -

I may have to add that to the list...but have been trying to get back to Lotus of Siam - also on Sahara - for years now...last time were thwarted by them not being open for lunch on Saturdays. Some suggest it's the best Thai food in North America...I have not sampled enough to know if that might be true but we really liked it.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYin Vegas, they don't want you staying in your room - they want you out of your room and in the casino...may be why they charge for wi-fi...maybe...to discourage people from hanging out in the room and surfing instead of gambling...at least where there's not a mandatory resort fee that covers it anyway...not sure that there are any hotels in Vegas with free wi-fi other than those with resort fees, are there? There are free wi-fi hot spots, sure...but in room you pay for one way or the other, pretty much standard...it's not a Wynn-specific thing or anything.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0

We have not tried Lotus of Siam, so can't compare. Weera Thai have a daily lunch special for $5.99 (6,99 for beef, 7,99 for shrimp) that is excellent value. The first visit, we ordered off the regular menu and were very pleased with it. We went back later and had the lunch special and it was even better.0 -
I stayed in Encore in 2010 & had an amazing time. We didn't hear a peep but we were either 11th or 16th floor facing the golf course
couldn't fault it :-)0 -
SHOWSPaying for Wi-Fi is standard everywhere in Vegas -and TBH free Wi-Fi elsewhere in the US is not as common as you imply. For example Marriott charge for it at all their hotels. Drop down a bit in grade to three star and yes outside of Vegas free Wi-Fi is really common .
Mini-bars are a rip off everywhere -and again the trembler is certainly not specific to the Wynn .
As for check in -Unless hotels were to give specific check in slots to customers it isn't reasonable to expect them to magic extra check in staff out of thin air. You can check in anytime from 3pm so there will be peaks and troughs as people will be arriving by different methods -air, driving etc and even those who say "thought" they would arrive at say 5pm might make better time on the road or might get a flight delay so it's very hard to predict. In the current economy people want good prices -and staff hours are the biggest expense so it's a balancing act-and at times all the hotels in Vegas have the same long lines to check in issue. Strangely the only hotel I've never had a wait at some time or another for check in -or seen long lines is the Orleans.
Smoking is allowed in casinos in Vegas -it's the last bastion of the smoker and I can't see that changing although some casinos do have non smoking playing areas. The Wynn's casino didn't strike me as smokey at all but then I'm not smoke intolerent and I think a lot of non-smokers are taken by surprise by Vegas.
Resort fees-Meh ! Sadly a way of life in Vegas now -except for one hotel group .
I'm really surprised they didn't move your sister unless she only complained out check-out and personally I would have refused a bar credit and wanted a room credit (no good to you as you prepaid unless you were charging back to your room) or a food and beverage credit in addition to a move.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

I can never understand the lack of lines at the Orleans I guess its just not as big as most vegas hotels, but like you i have never had to wait more than a couple of minutes and i have stayed there a few times.
PS Thats my text in red incase people think Duchy wrote it;)0 -
SHOWSI think at the Orleans they have more multi-skilled staff and pull them off of other duties when lines get long-the likes of the Wynn don't appear to have that flexibility. Pretty much why I like you do still go back to the Orleans-they do try harder than the Strip hotels.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Well I settled on the platnium and have to say the room is superb. It's easily on par with anything I've stayed at in Florida.
I booked the basic 1bed room and it's massive. Fully equipt kitchen, bathroom has both a shower and jacuzzi.
Pool area is quiet and catches the sun all day after 11am.
I stayed at the mirage last time and the bed room alone here is at least the same size as the mirage room.
Arrived at 1.30 and had no problem checking in dispite the check in time being 4pm
Great Place, next door to elis island and 5 mins to the strip. Best part is zero noise0
