Hello everyone... MSE and LV newbie here!
Firstly thank you to everyone for making such an interesting and informative forum. I have enjoyed reading every page and apologise if I ask a question that's already been covered.
I am heading to LV Jul 25th-Aug 8th with my partner for a friend's wedding, flying with TC, staying in the Aria for the 2weeks and renting a car for one of the two weeks. (All booked as a package - although have to say this site has totally convinced me to book it all myself if we ever go again!)
We are definitely doing a trip to the Grand Canyon in the week we have the car and would like to explore a few surrounding places (Williams, flagstaff, R66and Arizona) over a few days so were looking for a place to stay around GC.
We are considering a GC lodge and thought about a cabin at Maswik lodge but are finding it hard to find any information about the cabins specifically....(trip advisors reviews seem to just be for the main lodge) Has anyone been or does anyone know what they're like? I know they'll be a huge difference to the Aria but don't mind for one nightWe also looked at Bright Angel but it's fully booked! Not sure whether it's worth driving away from Grand Canyon and staying around Williams.
Any advice is much appreciated.
Thanks:)0 -
CASINOSWhat is the change you heard about?0

I thought it was in the news maybe before Christmas, but I can't find anything on google (and am beginning to think I imagined this). I've just found an article on not charging to use your debit card to buy foreign currency and think this must have been what I was thinking of. Just ignore me I will research this myself.. Haha (and delete from my original post!)0

If you could let me know the hotel name that would be great, yeah wasn't planning to much driving in la due to traffic! Thanks for the info

There are a couple of pictures here...middle and to the right of the middle picture...the official site seems to say:
These cabins are also equipped with television and telephone services. The cabins have two queen-size or two double beds, ceiling fan and a shower.
Doesn't seem to say air conditioning, which given the time of year, may be something that you would be worth having?

We stayed at Thunderbird Lodge - photos seem quite similar...room was quite basic - bathroom was new and very nice, bedroom was very simple but served the purpose and did have a small fridge...we stayed one night and loved being at the rim.
There are several motels in Tusayan which is not far from the park entrance...we really liked staying at the rim though, made it a bit special we thought.
Personally I would stay one night at the GC and then move on - I don't think that the places you want to visit necessarily make the GC a good base camp - it's quite a long drive up AZ-64 (I think about an hour each way) which you would be backtracking on yourself each day.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYDoes anyone know which rental brokers allow return full of fuel? We wanted a car for just one day, and the price would be silly if we can't return full. I know they won't allow it with CH3000 vouchers, but it's not a problem with several days hire, we usually use a big chunk of it. One day though, it will be hard to use up even a fraction of a full tank.
Any advice is welcome.
TIA.....0 -
You may find the CH3000 Platinum package (or whatever its called) works - the one with unlimited drivers and fuel included.....its only a few quid a day more.illegitimi non carborundum0

CASINOSCan anyone offer any help, (I know I've read trip reviews about this on here but can't seem to find them) I'm looking at doing the LAX flights rather than direct then driving up to Vegas, Then staying in Los Angeles for two nights before driving down. Any advice re hotels in LA and the drive down?
Thanks
I am doing a similar trip in Sept. Staying 3 nights in LA, driving to the Grand Canyon for a few days, then on to Vegas for a week.
Got a cheap night at Hilton LAX, then staying 2 nights at Coral Sands.
(I can't post a link, but the address is: 1730 North Western Ave., Hollywood, Los Angeles, CA 90027)
I chose this hotel because of it's convenient location (for what we want to do) the price, but mostly because 2 different people I know have stayed there and both recommended it.
When i questioned that it was a gay hotel they both said that there were plenty of mixed sex couples there and also a couple of families with children.0
