VALUE FOR MONEYwookeyhole1 wrote: »thanks for your replies, we won the holiday and have not got much spending money so want to do it as cheap as possible. we have £500 maybe up to £700 for 2a 1c for 5 days/nights and would like to do 1 show that my little girl would love.
I did look up on holidaytruths but cannot seem to get on there atm. someone mentioned a place with dolphins in one of the hotels that is quite hidden at the back. any ideas?
thanks xx
Sounds like a great prize - congrats! If you weren't reasearching a trip to Vegas, be sure to look into restrictions on kids in Vegas so you're not surprised at them - doesn't sound like you guys will plan to spend loads of time gambling but your little one will not be able to be with you on the casino floor - you can walk through to get to a show/restaurant, etc...but not stop and gamble with a child with you...some shows have a minimum age...the only one that jumps out at me for kids is Mac King - great show, we have seen it twice and it's good for kids (he has a couple come on stage, even)...you can usually get a 'free' ticket with purchase of a drink, though that will still be over $30 for the 3 of you - not sure if they have kid price tickets.
And you can't take the little one into a bar...maybe not an issue at all but I know some have been surprised by that.
I think the monorail may be a good consideration with a little one, though may get pricey...even MGM itself is a big property so a lot of walking, etc...and while the monorail stops are at the back of properties, and sometimes a fair walk from the back...it's not walking along the crowded Strip with a little one...but again, cost will add up so without a special offer it may be more expensive than it would be worth to use regularly, but maybe a day pass at some point would be a good idea.Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?0 -
VALUE FOR MONEYFrom MGM, cross the strip, past NYNY, down Tropicana, then right at Dean Martin, and there an In n Out burger. I guess its about half a mile, although Ive never done it on foot (does Trop have a pavement???)..
I thought you had to cross across the interstate entrance ramp...but I get confused.
I just googled it and there is a way, but it isn't necessarily obvious (unless things have changed since this was published)

Might have a go at that walk to In-n-Out Burger. A 2 x 2 Animal style sounds the biz.0

SHOWSA lot of shows have a lower age limit -some for the content of the shows and some for the comfort of the rest of the audience-even the Flamingo has a ban on under fives for Donny and Marie (which would be a great show as it's very family friendly lots of singing and dancing and some humour and the showroom isn't huge like some of them-but unless you can get reduced seats at one of the ticket booths is likely to be out of your price range looking at your budget)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

SHOWSI was thinking about your budget -which is quite tight for Vegas but I think do-able if you plan ahead-there are lots of half price coupons out there which you can print out ahead of time. Vegas is one of those places that hits you between the eyes when you get there and it's easy to miss out on stuff or pay more than you need if you haven't preplanned. I think I posted some tips on loquax ages ago you might find useful btw (I assume as you are a comper you're a member there
)
One thing.....Most Vegas hotels take a deposit on the rooms on a creditcard or demand an upfront cash deposit which could be as much as $100 a night even on prepaid rooms -I realize as it is a prize the room will be prepaid but the hotel will still want something refundable at check out so best to check it out beforehand rather than get hit with a nasty shock at check in.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

wow, thanks for the info everyone.
looks like we will be lounging round the pool for alot of our trip (not that i mind)
what is a resort fee? and will i have to pay this too?
thanks xx0 -
SHOWSFrom the MGM website -however I would call the competition promotor and explain it's over £100 for the resort fee and tax- and ask if it is included in the prize -they may stump up for it. Explain to them it isn't something the hotel will allow you to opt out of. (Alternatively ask them if they could move you to the Flamingo which doesn't have a resort fee)
What is the resort fee?
A.
A daily resort fee of $25 (subject to applicable tax) will be applied to all reservations arriving on or after February 13, 2012.
The resort fee includes:- Complimentary high speed internet
- daily USA Today newspaper
- local and toll free numbered calls
- limited Business Center Services such as outgoing faxes, copies, notary, and boarding pass printing
- Free access to the Cardio Room located on the 4th floor, in the 300 wing.
Open daily from 6am – 8pm.

Hopefully the resort fee is included, if not you could do as Duchy suggests, otherwise make a fuss at the desk that you won the holiday and thought everythimng would be included and they would probably not charge the resort fee, many people have had success getting the resort fee waived just by saying "I havent used any of the icluded ameneties"0 -
CASINOSNice prize!
Another vote for Town Square....they have different free events on for kids
www.mytownsquarelasvegas.com
They have story time at 11 am.
I know in summer they have free outdoor childrens movies but not sure what month they start.
Last year we went to the national day where they had all the emergency vehicles, CSi vans etc which you could go look in and they gave demonstrations, it was a great evening and all free!0 -
