about a year ago, there was construction going on opposite Cosmo / Crystals (I think)... I presume that's all finished now, can anyone update with what's there now? :)

Again taken from Vegaschatter an article about one of the original hotels...thunderbird which built a horseracetrack behind it in the 60s, I never knew that.

How big are the "safes" inside the bedrooms?
Are they big enough for a 17 inch laptop?
Do the sizes of the safes differ from one hotel to another?

not sure, from experience they're tall and thin rather than deep... they are generally advertised as laptop-friendly, but at 17" might be close if they're not all uniform

not suggesting it would be for everyone, but we have never used a safe in our room in a Vegas hotel and regularly leave the room with a netbook, tablet, at least two media players, maybe a phone and digital cameras out in view...have left laptops out too when I sude to bring mine for work most trips...never had an issue.

Depending on where you are staying, some hotels charge for safe use.
Does remembering a time that a certain degree of personal responsibility was more or less standard means that I am officially old?

Never seen one big enough for a 17" laptop.

Last visit a 15" was a tight fit in the Orleans and it wouldnt fit at Flamingo

I only ever put cash and travel docs in the safe.
I have left laptops etc in full view in the room and never had a problem.

hiya, we are off to vegas in 3 weeks flying business class with ba staying at the mgm grand.

Anyone know what to expect please as I have never been to vegas and never flew business class before?

I am currently reading through this thread.

I doubt we will be eating in any fancy resturants. Is there a supermarket nearby the grand?

and any reccomendations for diners/cafes near the grand and what sort of prices to expect?

also is there a show or attraction a 5 year old would like?

    many thanks xxx

There are no supermarkets within walking distance of the MGM. However there is an ABC store where you can get drinks and snacks.

There is a food court just up from the MGM at Showcase Mall which has a Panda Express, Wendy's, Subway and a few other places. There is also a La Salsa Cantina just up from there which isn't expensive and then a Denny's on the corner opposite the Monte Carlo.

We have always found the MGM buffet to be very good although others haven't rated it.

There are plenty of places that fall in the bracket between fancy restaurants and supermarkets. It would be a shame not to try them :)
