I spent ages last year looking for a miniature poodle for a friend, she has an allergy so can't have a dog that sheds. The poodle crosses were selling for more than pedigree poodles and like everyone says, at the end of the day, they are what we used to call mongrels. I too have nothing against mongrels but certainly wouldn't pay £600 pounds or more for one.
I don't think mongrels are inherently of less value than pedigrees, they're all dogs after all!
I wouldn't pay £600 for a puppy farmed unhealthy pup who was born in a dark kennel to a criminally neglected b!tch regardless of whether it was a pedigree or not.
I would consider paying that for a puppy from health checked parents that had been born, well cared for and socialised in a home environment and where I could see both parents, regardless of its pedigree status.
(Actually, that's not true as I'm allergic so can only have pedigrees and prefer to rescue them, but in principle!)0 -
Well, I can see this being a disaster waiting to happen:
"We recently gave a home to a female labradoodle, before we could get her spayed our male Jack Russell/westie managed to impregnate her. ...... The vet has advised that the puppies should be non-shedding due to both parents being non-shedding".
Jack Russells certainly shed - as can Labradoodles.
I hope one isn't bought by someone with an allergy - or in a few months' time there will be another poor wee one looking to be rehomed.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Neither do I think they're of less value - it's just really p'ing me off that people are adding these fancy (stupid in many cases) names and inflating the price - and that unsuspecting / unknowledgeable people will be falling for it.Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

i dont agree with it, for instance a jack russel crossed with a shih tzu, who on earth would want one!
i think it would bring out the worst traits of both breeds personally.
i used to have shih tzus, if id bred one with a jack russell id be lucky to give one away:eek:***MSE...My.Special.Escape***0 -
I did ask my OH if a spaniel mated with a beagle would it be a spangle?
the thought of a dog being named after a 1970s sweet made me laugh even if the OH looked at me weirdly.2014 Target;

Probably not a good thing to do, but just looked on Gumtree. Someone is rehoming for £350 a harlequin dane b1tch, 9 months old. The saddest thing that the advert says ishasnt even been named just call her puppy still as unable to think of one that everyone agrees on
If I had the room I'd take her tonight.. (my last dane was a harlie... this one looks like her)0 -
as a owner of bullmastiffs and douge de bordeauxs i saw an advert for bulldouzers which i presume is a cross between the two breeds !!!!!0

It drives me mad too and I'm in my 20s! They're not pedigrees, they're mutts! But making up a "breed" makes more money, which leads to random dogs being bred with no thought for the potential health problems and the puppies sold for £100s to uninformed owners while the same crosses die in shelters.0
