Wow - well done you! Which did you join?

Paddy Power and Gala both have cashback offers on topcashback. You have to deposit a min of £10 and spend it. If you do that paddy power gives you x3 and gala x2 of what you deposit. Poss the the other way round! Anyway with the cashback at 45quid I thought I would have a go, even if I lost my £20 deposit I would still be £25 up! So I had a go and won! Signed up the other half (with his permission of course!) and won again. Then withdrew the cash I had won...OBVIOUSLY I dont advocate gambling as a way to solve debt but it worked out ok for me this time!! :j

    :( Trying hard...failing miserably :(

Just logged on to check my bank account and vanquis totals and decided I can afford to pay another £15.23 towards Freemans. Then I got really annoyed at how close to 25% paid I was, so I calculated my total debt divided by 4 and deducted how much I've paid so far. That led to another £12.27 going to the freemans account. Afterall I have a freezer full of bread and a cupboard full of baked beans if worse comes to worse :)

Updated my snowball to reflect the paid amounts, and my gazillion places where I write on spreadsheets hehe

Proud to say 25% complete *claps and jumps for joy* today is an exceptionally good day.

This thread really is amazing, before it I would have made minimum payments and then wasted the rest of the money on god knows what. Since November 15th (two months ago) I've cleared a quarter of my debt.

THANK YOU JEMMA and everyone else that's been here supporting me :) You're little angels.

Ok then guys, I need some advice from you all.

I have just started a new contract for my phone and have now got an iphone 4s. Previous to this I i had the 3gs and sent this off recently to Mazuma and that cash helped me thru december and xmas.

My brother has offered to buy my 4s off me for £500!

Now I love my new phone, but my idea is to sell the phone to him, buy a 2nd hand ihpone 3gs for around £100 and use the rest of the cash to 1. get me thru the rest of this month, 2. pay off more of my debt.

Question is what do I do?

I feel like i should sell it and downgrade to the 3gs as i should be making these sacrifices to become debt free.

Help and your advice needed guys?

    Thanks

Hi Machine, What is the monetary difference between selling the 4S to your brother and buying a new 3gs? If it's a significant difference then sell it and pay the money off your debt, if it's not significant then it's debatable really. If you were to sell it, wouldn't it be just as well to get a really cheapy-cheap phone for the short term until you're debt-free. Whichever you choose, having a phone is money that hasn't gone off your debt, and money that hasn't gone off your debt is incurring interest charges, so anything that you buy, whilst you have debt is actually costing you more than the ticket price.

So I'm with FREEZ and loubie_lou on this one. Sell the phone.

Machine if you're gonna sell the phone don't forget you're still going to be paying for it monthly through the contract.

  • Hi

Although I haven't managed to pay any debts this week and probably won't until we get paid, I have at least kept within my weekly budgets (doesn't happen very often!). I had to get some stuff for my kids yesterday (essentials like socks) so I made a list and kept to it - not buying anything else - hooray!

Going out tonight with friends for a meal and only have £7.00 so that will be a challenge keeping to that but at least I don't drink very often so won't have to buy alcohol. Luckily my friends know I'm skint (though not in debt) so will be quite happy to go somewhere cheap.

BTW a message to Kerri-dfw, I flew to Canada with Canadian Affair last summer and they were £200 cheaper than anyone else at that time, per ticket. They were also a good airline to fly with.

Thanks rdchick I'm really pleased with myself, although means no chocolate next week as that was my purse money. I don't need any though, it'll only make me fat haha.

Thanks to everyone for their advice re: flights, seems Canadian Affair will be the ones I advise OH to take.

I'm really stiff today from rock climbing on Tuesday, can hardly walk, ouch ouch ouch
