Thank you recurrent, that must have also been the issue with the onions that ended up in a block haha! I have so much to learn about this old style money saving, but I haven't had takeaway this weekend for the first time in ages.

Watching Sherlock series 1 at the moment as my friends have been raving. I can pay off £30 tomorrow when my cheque clears, then I'll be 25% of the way yay!

  • Well still only spent 75p this year!!

Seriously would have spent at least £100 if I had not started this pledge!

Today I cooked the second Turkey (bought for christmas but never used) out, nice turkey peas and chips dinner! after drinking too much of the christmas booze last night

Then I have made food for us for tomorrow which is turkey stir fry and noodles, still using cupboard and freezer items!

Aiming for the car to get me to Friday without the need to fuel up!

    GO me! lol

This is the first month I have withdrawn cash at the start of the month for the amounts I've allocated to spend on food and entertainment. It has REALLY made me spend less - I have gone into the supermarket with my phone calculator to make sure I don't overspend, as I know as soon as I have to get the debit card out I've gone over budget. I feel much more in control and I am happier that I know I'm sticking to the budget, and I can still afford to buy the things I like, I just have to be careful to cut back elsewhere on areas I would normally be wasteful on but don't want to be any more. I would recommnend this system to people who are used to going shopping with no set budget in mind, or with a set budget but normally exceed it. I used to have a rough idea of say £50 for food shopping but would frequently get to the checkout and see it came to £70 or £80 and just use the debit/credit card and just accept I had overspent, instead of doing something about it. It's worth doing something about it!

Package holidays are *so* expensive, we always book independently. We're doing 6 days in Rome in June, for 5 of us -flights were £400, B&B is £500. We'll use the metro to get about, so it's just lunches, dinners and spends. A City break package on a B&B basis for the same time would have cost us £2500.

I have been on loads of beach hols, city breaks etc and have to say Rome is favourite place in the world, just amazing. When my baby is grown up and moved out in many years we'll be living it up all over italy I think or hope !

This year its the suns £9.50 hols though:rotfl:

Well done that's fantastic, wish I was as strong as you. I'm back to work tomorrow after 3 weeks off and that's where my weaknesses are (dinners the odd treat etc) So fingers crossed I won't spend a penny, I will remind myself of your 75p to stop me spending.

Went to Costco today and only spent £24, usually i come out with at least £50 worth of stuff we didn't need. What i bought was needed and will last us a while, especially 40 toilet rolls for £10.78 :D
I will stop spending on things I don't need

  • Hi all- I totally sympathise with the colonoscopy clear out- I have Crohns Disease so am used to invasive procedures like that- yuk yuk yuk!

I have had a relatively MSE weekend- I did buy some new running shoes yesterday BUT I needed orthotics too (broke my foot in 22 places 16 months ago- was immobile for 9 months) and the guy sold me a pair of £115 running shoes AND the £35 orthotics for £100 all in :) (I think 9its cos my hubby also spent £107 at the same time so we were obviously customers worth keeping sweet) AND my husband had a funny turn in the shop- paid half for me AND loaned me the rest so I can pay him in a couple of weeks when Im a bit flusher :) apart from that I spent £7 in Lidl earlier- mostly work stuff and resisted anything else- even online.
I have a load of ebay to list- really dont have the energy at the moment. I am totally rearranging my office this week- I have a kitchen table to use as my desk so I can have a work/pc end and a sewing machine end instead of my little computer desk. Also I am away with work all next weekend so I wont list ebay until the desk is sorted and I have time to post and pack!

Debt busting has ground to a bit of a halt- Im perilously close to my new higher overdraft limit so all the money I have coming in for the next 2 weeks should cover that (fingers crossed) then the DD's start going out (yikes) THEN I can get back on the straight and narrow and start debt busting again. However I am still determined to vanquish Vanquis by the end of the month (£51.77 to go) THEN start battling Crapital One.
Onwards into week 2 of 2012 oh Debt Busters :)
