Jemma sorry to hear that *hugs* :( Take a spreadsheet and log everything you do and how long it takes you, so something like Date/start time/end time/description. This will keep an evidence log so you can prove what you are doing and how long it's taking you. I know it sounds like a horrid thing to have to do, but it will also be great for when it comes to appraisal time and you can say "oi look how much work I ruddy well do".

Bad bad day today. I feel upset, betrayed, angry, confused, shocked... l've felt for a while that something hfss been goingon at work and today I've been warned quietly that I'm being watched as some people think I don't do enough work... this is ludicrous as I always work extremely hard and have often worked a lot more hours than anyone else on site. In fact almost two years ago I have a nervous breakdown caused by working 90hr weeks for month on end. I had two weeks off sick then returned to work heavily on medication. I weaned myself off about 6 months ago but apparently they have to take this into consideration. I'm so angry I can't begin to tell you. I work damned hard in my job and NOONE is going to say otherwise. I will fight this. Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!! I'm also on my mums phone now as our internet is down so this has taken blooming ages to write... because of the above I won't be going on here during work anymore. It's silly as I always work through my 1hr unpaid lunches and they are questioning what I do??!!!

Unbelievable  - I can't believe companies do this. Why don't they look at those people who really aren't working properly (I'm sure there are some of those in your company as there have been in all the companies I've worked at - you know the types - they chat for most of the day, then tell people they are really busy etc etc). At least you have a possible way out with your business plan you were talking about the other day - sometimes the only way to get by is to think about a possible escape. :grouphug: hugs.

ooooh all you need to do is run on the spot as fast as you can for 20mins. Trust me, it's harder than it sounds to keep it up, we used to do it in jujitsu training! At least you don't need any equipment for it though. We used to run as fast as we could on the spot for about 20 secs then we'd have to run slower but with out knees raised up to waist height for 40secs then alternate back again a few times. Gets the heart pounding!
Thanks I will try this :). When I read this my brain automatically corrected the timing to 20 secs so I didn't notice it said 20 mins til Pedro kindly pointed it out :rotfl:. Just have to hope my knees don't give out (I'm fit but have dodgy knees!).

I did wonder how 20 seconds of running on the spot would work. hang on which is correct?

  • Fritter Princess - or should I say Fitter Princess :rotfl:I saw that Horizons programme on exercise and it was fascinating. Thought about doing it but not sure what to do for the 20 secs as I don't have an exercise bike. What are you doing?

One of my more useful purchases ( when I used to fritter money away!) was an elliptical cross trainer which I bought half price from a certain catalogue store!! I have been doing a jillian michaels dvd for the last few weeks, and although I'm toning and losing inches I decided to increase the cardio work to shift the pounds. So I tend to do 30 mins on the cross trainer and fit in the 20 second bursts during the last few minutes.

I have seen this mentioned before on TV and someone did a light jog and ran flat out for the bursts, and it had the desired effect ( lost a stone in 4 weeks If I remember rightly).
    We'll see!!xx

Thanks. I'm going to try the 20 secs flat out running 3 times a day as I like the thought of the health benefits they mentioned(increased glucose tolerance/less likely to become diabetic and better oxygen usage - or something like that ). I do quite a bit of exercise anyway and enjoy it so I think I'll just add this new bit into what I already do. Or at least I will when my knees recover from the inelegant fall I had at skiing (dry slope) last weekend - not cool :rotfl:.

On the programme it said 20 sec bursts of manic activity 3 times a day, 4 times a week - I think - *runs off to check on i-player*.

ETA - can't find on i-player but I remember the guy saying it would only take him 12 minutes to do over the period he was testing it - which would seem to fit in vaguely with what I've written above.

Thanks guys, i may need to accelerate my plans but it does mean that my dfd of Xmas may be in jeopardy. If I can just get through the next three months then that will be my big loan at £260 per month gone leaving my two credit cards on long time 0% Apr. If need be then I can let these run with min payments whilst my business starts up. It's not the end of the world in the grand scheme of things but still a horrid thing to happen. And yes, there are many people at work who either do nothing or mess up big time and yet are untouchable... can't wait to work for myself! The worst thing is that I consider my boss SD my friend and fee have been for 4 yrs through thick and thin. If this is true then i'll be incredibly disappointed. Don't worry Kerry, I've already put together a motion study spreadsheet together for myself to should exactly how hard I work. My appraisal is next week and I can't wait as this is when I will definitely be told. I wish I could get onto the internet to start my research on my company.
P.s. read that thread and was appalled that some people can be so judgmental and rude! If you can't say anything nice then don't say anything at all springs to.mind... why is it usually the long time posters though? Surely they should be wiser and more emphatic not judgmental...

  • Sorry to hear that Jemma... hopefully they will see the truth in what you really do.

Rather than sit in the bedroom, I took myself off to the gym. Did week 1 run 1 of the couch potato to 5k in 9 weeks plan, i nearly gave up after 20 minutes but powered through it, just! I did have myself on a 1% inclince though! Then did 20 lengths in the pool. Now I've got back, they are in bed, so I can finally watch some trashy tv!
