OMG!!  someone up there really doesnt like me! Went to pick DD up from nursery and she pipes up 'can we pick Jake up from school?' hes doing after school club so I think, why not, so we swing round to the school and as we are sat outside I knock the car off but the radio is still playing. Roll on 3 minutes 'mum I really need a wee!!' we do the whole 'are you desperate or can you hold it?' convo and decide no shes bursting so press the button to start the car and its completely dead. Take the key out, pop it back, still no joy, now this is the end of my mechanical knowledge.
So lock the car and take her into the school, where I realise I havent got my mobile and they very kindly let me use the phone. Ring my dad (only number I can rememebr), hes doesnt answer as hes in the shower. Jake comes out of club, takes my keys and runs all the way home and back to get my mobile so I can ring DH. 'go try it again while im on the phone so I can hear it' says he. So drag my ar*e back to the car and realise that the central locking now doesnt work either  DH says battery is dead and we have to wait for my mum to get back from work to take us home!
Dad then turns up in van and we try to use the mini key inside the key fob for emergencies to unlock the passenger door, what we dont realise is the hole in the bottom of the passenger door handle is not infact the key hole but a little gap to pull the cap off thats covering the key hole!

Dad goes home, ring DH again who explains why we couldnt unlock the car, ring dad who comes back while mum looks after kids back at mine having got home, and the 2 of us, who happen to have as much mechanical knowledge as a tea strainer, try to jump start my car. Firstly, the man who assures me he has jump started many cars in his 65 years, is unsure which way round the jump leads go  and the fact that when we put them on one way the lights lit up in my car and when put on the other way sent massive sparks flying from dads van battery, did not help us figure out which way they needed to go :o

Needless to say the car is still outside the school, and lily and I are housebound until DH gets home and can go and get a new battery and fix it :o

Sorry but this did make me laugh.... hope you can get it sorted soon!

I'm a little bit peed off this evening, I went over to the boyfriends last night as I had a doctors appointment this morning and I've already registered at his surgery... All of today and tonight the lodger and his boyfriend (who is visiting from Germany) have been in the living room with the door shut, making me feel like I can't go in there so I've been in the bedroom all day. Unfortunately Mr S doesn't come back until tomorrow, but when we are in there we never ever shut the door... it's the lodgers choice if he doesn't come and sit with us and stays in his room all the time.

Ow no Jakes-mum! Have you been doing shorter distances lately? It might not be a new battery that you need, but a good long charge from the mains. The best purchase I ever made when I had my old car was one of these jump start kits I found one for about £40 and it has saved not only my bacon, but I've lent it to the neighbours to help them first thing in the morning. The last thing I'd ever want would be to be in a dark car park late at night with a flat battery *shudders*. Although if the battery is knackered there's not much you can really do :(

I think my housemates dogs now see me as pack leader :D They follow me all round the house, even when her and her fiance are in. They come and sleep on my sofa in my room when I'm at home, and seem to be much calmer when I let them through the entire flat instead of just keeping them locked in the kitchen with their dog flap. Happy puppies :) They've even stopped begging me for food now. To think I thought of myself as just a cat person and had a fear of dogs not so long ago :)

I feel like this when my HM and her fiance are in the living room snogging. Stand up tall, wall in the room head held high, plonk yourself on the sofa/armchair and ask them what they're watching. Or just go in and read a book or something. You're as entitled to be in there as they are :)

I know, I just feel really awkward doing that. Me and the Mr never make him feel awkward if he wants to come and sit with us, it's not like we are sh**ging on the sofa. I would never just sit in there and shut the door if it wasn't my flat!

I only knew where the lever was to open the bonnet because DH said we needed a new headlight bulb on the weekend and asked me to open it for him. This didnt help when we were trying to find the catch under the bonnet and stood for 20 minutes running our hands in the crack trying to find it :o seriously think I need to learn some basic mechanics from DH :eek:

Im sure DH has one, but I havent a clue where it is and doubt I could work it if I could find it :rotfl::rotfl:

I can balance your books, stretch a £1 to do the work of £2, cook any recipe you can throw at me, but give me a car that doesnt start and im completely flummoxed! Im surprised I know where the petrol goes tbh :rotfl:

Ok for future reference jump leads have a set of red and a set of black. Connect one of the reds to the + (live) on your dads battery, then connect the other end of the red to the + on your battery. Then connect one of the black leads to the - (earth) on your dads van, the other end needs to go on something metal on your car to earth it. Do not earth your car near the battery or fuel system. When connected wait a few minutes, then get your Dad to turn over his engine to start the van. Wait a minute, then turn over your engine to get it started. Leave the cars running idle for 10 minutes. Then turn everything off and disconnect the leads. You then need to give the car a good journey to keep the charge in it and it should hold. Cars have bits in them that run the battery down even when it's not being used, alarms, clocks, etc so short journeys that don't charge the battery aren't going to be any good to keep the charge. You should give the car a good run every now and then especially in winter to make sure the battery stays charged :)

Psycho they might have the door shut because they are making noise, if not then they are just rude and get the MR to have a word ;)

Hi guys just passing through, so busy at work just now I don't seem to have the time or the energy to come on here. I really need to get a bit more motivated as I started off the year so well.

My car went on the blink so had to buy a new one (more debt) but I am not going to include this in my total debt as I will aim to clear what I set out at the beginning of the year and then concentrate on making larger payments to the car loan to clear it quicker, although I must say I do feel it was well worth the money no more rattle about in my old car worrying I won't get to work anymore.

    My new total is:

    #259 Total £2466.49/£12,636

    Note to self:

Get motivated and stick to my challenges!!!

Bad bad day today. I feel upset, betrayed, angry, confused, shocked... l've felt for a while that something hfss been goingon at work and today I've been warned quietly that I'm being watched as some people think I don't do enough work... this is ludicrous as I always work extremely hard and have often worked a lot more hours than anyone else on site. In fact almost two years ago I have a nervous breakdown caused by working 90hr weeks for month on end. I had two weeks off sick then returned to work heavily on medication. I weaned myself off about 6 months ago but apparently they have to take this into consideration. I'm so angry I can't begin to tell you. I work damned hard in my job and NOONE is going to say otherwise. I will fight this. Grrrrrrrrr!!!!!! I'm also on my mums phone now as our internet is down so this has taken blooming ages to write... because of the above I won't be going on here during work anymore. It's silly as I always work through my 1hr unpaid lunches and they are questioning what I do??!!!
