  • Hi RF
How are you today? Sorry for not replying sooner, but I was asleep...just wanted to say that I too hv a large family. I do have a partner (well at the time of writing this I do-no guarantees that I will later today if he doesn't get his act together ;) ). I do understand where you are coming from - having children is wonderful, don't get me wrong, but being in debt with children is terrifying. It is only 7:20am here and already I hv been bombarded with the following questions all abt money-Mum can I open 10 cans of Pedigree Chum and mould it all together into a big birthday cake for the dog? NO! Mum I use to love it when you wld surprise us with a Chinese takeaway for our tea. Can we do that tonight? NO! Mum, can we book a holiday to Florida? NO! Aaargh! Pls try and check in regularly with us... They have heard it all on this thread and there is a lot of support. One thing that I do to cheer myself up is to scribble some of the funny/loving things the kids say into a book. For instance the seven yr old was eating her cereal and tapping each Cheerio with the back of her spoon. I asked her about it and she says 'I am running a Spa and I'm giving the Cheerios a massage!!!' things like that really get me smiling!
Well I had better go and get the day started..talk to you soon!

Sorry I don't chat very much on this thread. I tend to do all of my chatting on either my diary or GreenSaints' diary and then find I have no motivation to talk anymore :o

Anyway, I'm getting a bit excited because I can see the below £1000 mark on the horizon! Can't wait!! :D

Just been listening to Goyte - "Someone that I used to know". It's a fantastic track, mixture of 60's with Peter Gabrielesque vocals. It's so refreshing to actually listen to some musical talent rather than the music-by-numbers carp that shows like X-factor churn out each year... Time for diversity people!

Anyhoo... Just updating (this week's been manic so apologies for the delay). There are some FABULOUS totals being paid off!!! Well done peeps!!! In just a few days I can work out our totals paid for January and by the looks of it (thanks HelenPie xxx) then the amount paid in the longest month for nearly everyone is going to be mahoosive... I need to work out what I can pay off this month but I'm going to just add £1000 on and work out how much more I can spare as I got the final part of my bonus too.

I went with my friend this morning to her friend who is an optician and I'm now trialling some contact lenses which (fingers crossed) will not irritate my eyes. I have been using ones that you put in at night and they change the curvature of your eyes whilst your asleep so that when you wake up then you pull the lenses out and you can see normally. The only problem is that if they don't work properly then it's usually just one eye that works so you can't use your glasses and you can't see without them so your depth perception is off. You can't just fix the problem, you have to wait for your eyes to returned to their normal shape which can take a couple of days... Also you can get big halos around headlights and streetlights so driving at night is not pleasant. I decided to get normal lenses as I'm sick of the headaches and having to wear my glasses. I'm off out tonight so will dye my hair and then am getting my hair cut on Tuesday YIPEEE!!! One thing that is really doing my head in is my phone, I really really want an iphone/android etc so I can access this website and myfitnesspal etc instead of always having to get on my laptop. I am sooooo tempted to look around to buy one but my head is telling me that my contract (24month) is up in summer and I can upgrade on 29th May probably free for an android and that this is the MSE way. It's just frustrating.

Am mega inspired with everyone's updates. I don't get paid until Tuesday, and I should be pleased about that but I am worrying. Darling OH's ex (still married but separated) has taken all of his money out of their joint account, therefore he has nothing. He is self-employed and so money is sporadic. I paid the £500 phone bill for him as they cut off his phone so he wouldn't be able to work (this covered 5 business phones including ex-wife who had run up the huge amount whilst on holiday, she said she'd pay it but she blows hot and cold - she has now been removed from the phone). He has to pay her £500 a month, and £300 a month rent for his flat, and also usual stuff like poll tax, electric etc. He gets really annoyed that I have to keep bailing him out and is getting really down with it all. The plan was that he would move out of his flat in March and move in with me so that financially we would be better off (and so we could be together). I think ex is trying to make his life as uncomfortable as possible so that he will go back. I'm not complaining and I know that it's a difficult situation, he only got the flat so that his ex would let him see their children. I am obviously the anti-christ and am not allowed to infect her children (although I did meet one of them once and we got on great). We talked about it last night and he is going to talk to the children. I know that he wants to move out and move in with me so that we can properly start our life together but not sure if he will do as I don't think that the children will agree to it. I'm just worried about how things will work out and especially about money. if he keeps the flat for another 6 months/year I don't think i'll be able to keep helping him out as I'm already massively into my overdraft, then what?

sorry if it sounds like i'm ranting, really not, just worried about it all. x
I'm going to have to agree wth angelbob here, you are enabling him. Stop! You are already in debt of your own, or else you wouldn't be here. Stop paying for him, he'll have to sort his act out or suffer the consequences and as hard as it is to watch we haved to let our loved ones learn by themselves.
Secondly, his family is not your problem it's his, all you have to do is be understanding, supportive and listen, but please stop digging yourself further into debt because of a man.
Your OH needs to open his own b/a and pay his wages into there, it takes 10mins at the bank to do this. He might even be able to do it online. This stops his ex wiping the joint account (separated but still financially tied why???)
If the ex doesn't pay the phone bill then take her to the small claims court. That's your money and she owes it to you. It's not like it's £5.
If she threatens for him not to see the kids then there is ways around that as well. I know that some of these are not pleasant, but she can't just walk all over you either. However, the more you give in to her, the further she'll push the boundary.
If you're waiting almost a year for a man to move in with you, then who's to say you won't be waiting 10.

Sorry to rant at you, I just hate it when people mess others around and it doesn't sound like you're being treated very fairly. *Big hugs* and hope you don't mind xx

My freemans bill has arrived with £12.54 of interest. I've paid the interest and an additional £10 off. I'm a little scared to pay the full balance as I don't want to be completely skint :( I've got some extra fleabay money through so am going to add that as it comes in to the freemans account, then see how much I have remaining to pay to them.

Right, bit the bullet and paid off half of freemans, will pay the other half off on the 19th with whatever is left before payday (need to travel for new job so want a £200 buffer). Also paid Wescott their monthly dues.

Off topic from paying debts, but just to join in the topic of funny things kids say, I was sat in a waiting room reading the out of date magazines and an article in the magazine was a competition for funny things kids say. The winning entry was

" Mum, were you really sad when the dinosaurs died?" :rotfl::rotfl:

I've got to admit it, I actually snorted out loud in public. :o
