Going to be my third alcohol free weekend of the year this weekend, made an over payment to my mortgage, as I'm not drinking, that's £54 extra off my mortgage because of not drinking :)

Wine goes off when it has been opened for a short time 41, which is probably why it tastes horrible - it reacts with oxygen and turns to vinegar ( a weak acid). There is a fair chance that if it has been in your fridge for awhile that it has much less alcohol in it. Old wine really can't be very good for you....it's like old food - it's past it's sell by date. It's also 100% biodegradable so there is nothing to worry about there either.

Just thrown half a bottle of white and half a bottle of red away that's been open since Christmas- don't know why I kept it really.

Only wine left now is 2 red and 2 white, I don't drink red and one of the whites I don't like, but will take it all to dinner party next Saturday. That will be the end of that....thank god!
I had to replace my car, I got a tesco interest free cc with 18 months interest free period

£5600 with 18 months to pay it.

Well have managed another free night so..... 7 AF for me in January so far!

However, day before I went out for a late christmas lunch with my second in command. 5 bottles of wine later we were beyond drunk - day long hangover yesterday. Vomit +++ the night before once I got in. No recollection of any of it. Other half had to clear it up and put me to bed.

I shall be 42 on my next birthday. As a teenager and in my 20's I barely drank at all.

    Shameful

    Hey Guys!

Thank you to everyone who keeps posting, it is so helpful. Sorry, I seem to be lurking and not very active. Not doing too well on my target. Now at 9 AFD. I want to get into a basic habit of occassional drinking. I am going to be gentle with myself and this is a work in progress. I tend towards black and white/all or nothing thinking so I am not taking this month as an opportunity to throw the towel in.

    Good luck you guys! x

Every day you are AF is brilliant. We all have different goals and it's important to remember that. I am happy for people who can drink a little or not often, i'm just not one of those people. x

Thanks for helping me last night. I won't forget your kind words in the middle of my binge. I don't like wine, so I don't know if I chose that as my poison because I knew I would stop at some point, but most likely because like I say, the moscadet was open and has been for ages, and I bought the chardonnay from the spar ages ago too and opened before I wanted to give up. Still got loads of opened chardonnay, it is vile. Please don't ask me to throw it away, it's not in my nature, I have OCD and have problems with waste, recycling takes up a lot of my time, because I am frightened to waste things. At least I know how much I drank and the unit values, now I can take the consequences. I am glad I measured the wine, at least I had enough sense to have a gap between emotion and drink, that measuring time would have made me stop and think, do i really want this, and each time i measured 200mls i thought no i dont want this but i deserve it and im in control. after the 400mls my stomach was saying no but i wanted to get off my face for the chaos, then i took my 50mgs sertraline antidepressant before bed. Didn't get off my face, but drowsy, mellow, and blurred vision. Today my aim is to sit down and add up everything properly, and I will feel better. Thanks for reading and I hope this will help you to abstain.

Any time. Hope you feel a bit better today. Take care of you xx

19/31 AFD here and gosh, it's been a struggle today.

Going for tea at my teetotal friend's house shortly so should be fine, just rattling around in an empty house is so tiring and I just fancied a pint or ten. Very proud that I've stayed strong though.

Well done everyone! Personally, my feelings are that even if you are drinking or whatever, if you still post on here that is still a huge step in the right direction and you should be very proud of yourself!

Thanks for all good wishes. I am picking up slowly. I'm not really sure whether it's the infection or the antibiotics that are putting me off booze.

I had a single glass in the pub yesterday but switched happily to tea when I got home. For tonight I've bought some ginger wine (I'll be on the sweet sherry or the port next!:rotfl:) as I fancied something with taste.

I think other people wanting them to drink is often a problem when giving up/cutting down. That's what's so brilliant about this dryathlon it's making it cool to not drink!

Sorry to hear about the job jak. I have some experience of employment stuff and it's a bit of a grey area as to whether your boss was being 'reasonable'. Some time off for a dependent's illness is reasonable but if it's causing problems at work by happening too often then it's hard for the employer. My view would be that they can expect you to make contingency plans for minor illness but most employers would be more 'reasonable' with serious illness like needing hospitalisation.

    16 AFDs please Shaggy

Best totals on here for ages. Well done all!:T
