By the way, apparently, when you stop drinking your body craves sugar so I've been told not to worry about eating sweet things as it evens out as you become used to not drinking. AF again last night making 2 so far for January. As usual got a bit bored after DH and DS went to bed so I went out....and had a pint of OJ & lemonade. I really do think it's the social side of things for me as I wasn't fussed about having a beer even though I was offered one. Eldest DS's birthday today, so we're off out for a meal later. Won't be drinking though, I rarely drink alcohol with meals anyway. Hoping for a better nights sleep tonight too

Oh my word!!! How busy it's been on here!!!!!!!
Firstly I will say welcome to the newbies, and good luck. And welcome back to lots of familiar faces
Shaggy, you do such an awesome job all year round at keeping score, but especially at this time of year when so many want to join in. Thank you!! :T
I want to say good luck to jak. I'm on the other side of the fence. MrR drinks 2-3 (sometimes 4 ) bottles of wine a day and has done for the best part of 10 years. Well done for deciding to stop and for actually stopping (wanting and doing are 2 very different things)
Cuppa, how were things over Christmas?
Tracy, good luck with the date.
Update from the Rainman household. He's been back to the docs for more tests. Apart from the high Cholestrol there is nothing to worry about and the doc says once he reduces his alcohol intake the Cholestrol will drop. Any practical help from the docs seems to be non-existant so it's down to him now. And if the last few days are anything to go by I'm not getting my hopes up.

Thanks folks. It really helps to hear how everyone else is getting on. Last night I read up to page 44 of this thread and I'm planning on carrying on tonight as it helps to hear of other peoples experiences. MrsR my guess is your hubby will eventually do something daft enough to wake himself up. I'm doing something now but I'm still very much 1 day at a time.

3 please, Shaggy, thanks. And I'd like a target of 25 please. Thank you so, so much for keeping score all year again.
I've been coming here for around 3 years, like Maman, and it is really helping me. I'll never be teetotal, but drink a lot less now than I used to do. This thread is such a help to me!!
Good luck everybody

Oh - so that's why I can't stop eating chocolate! Have decided to abandon all thoughts of slimming at the moment - I think I need to just focus on being AF this month. Can I report another successful day yesterday please Shaggy? Thanks very much xxSober October = 0 alcohol free days

jak well done i really admire you for choosing to do this for yourself. I think that if your motivation is right (you choose to give up because you want to) you will succeed. Alcohol takes everything away and gives nothing back. Even your family as a motivation is not enough, you need to do this for YOU. We drink for different reasons but we all drink for a reason and it is very individual and therefore unique to you. I wish you all the very best, I do not know if I have a problem with alcohol, I do know that when I am told I can't have one there is a problem. Now I am trying to find out why I find it so hard to not drink, had a bottle of Bud new years eve and nothing since but everytime something doesnt go my way guess what i start thinking about. 3AFD so far this year im not joining the dryathlon because I will set myself up to fail but I am taking it one day at a time cause I don't know how I'm gonna feel tomorrow or what will happen tomorrow. Please think of yourself, you matter and you are able to change yourself if you really want to.

Hi all
I can report 2 AF DAYS which = £2 to cancer research.
I have returned to work today and its as stressful as ever, we think that there is going to be some reorganisation and some may have pay cuts or even lose their jobs.
But I am determined to stay AF as I know I am much more alert etc when I am not drinking.
Going to have an early night tonight as I didn't sleep very well last night.
Also decided that I am going to stave off the boredom and the temptation for wine by having a through sort out and trying to sell some stuff on eBay or list on free cycle.
I have made a list of the things I want to buy with the money I make. I am not going to buy them until I have made enough from selling things to totally pay for them.
Wish me luck!
Have a good night everyone.
