On the few posts I have seen I have noticed some of you mention that your OH's drink, that it's hard for you to stop drinking when they continue, and also how their behaviour changes wheh they've had a drink. So my question is...................... Did you notice the changes in them before you choose to cut down? Or was it that as you were both drinking it was all kinda normal? And do you look at them now when they've had a drink and think "I hope I didn't behave like that?"
I only ask as MrR turns in to a right evil "bar-steward" when he's had too much. And as he doesn't know when to stop drinking I ususally ahve to wait until he passes out on the sofa.

i noticed before hand. although DH used to say i was a b*tch when i had wine so mine must have changed too. i know i feel different when I've been on that than with anything else.

now my DH is back at the gym he's started using his military excuse of "but a beer is THE best way to refuel after a workout! it replaces all your lost nutrients!" despite the fact that witht he two 10km races I've done one was refuelled with Barburrito and the other with a Chinese :rotfl:

    Hiya,

Not a great night for me last night (after being able to abstain on Sunday when I was out) I managed to drink a whole bottle of wine on my own in a couple of hours. Today I feel like **** and am not at work. I don't think I have ever taken a day off work before because of drinking  I am so dissapointed in myself.

Today I have nothing to drink in the house, I am going nowhere, so will not be drinking.

Bearacus Please can I join the rest of the SNC.

Im off to read the rest of the thread, hope everyone else is doing better than me :o

    Hi all.
I am STILL not very well and i am getting annoyed at being constantly poorly!
So, i havent had to worry about drinking, as i havent been able to stay awake past 8pm, therefore i dont drink, LOL!
Spent the morning at the hospital this morning with my friend (she had an appt there) and whilst in the waiting room i almost passed out and vomited! It was highly embarassing!!

    Anyway, enough of my moaning!
  • Mari, don't beat yourself up about it. everyone has done something they shouldn't have at some point and mistakes are ok as long as you learn something from it.

i hope you feel better soon Cleggie!

RL is a bit manic at the moment. Away at the weekend and still playing catch-up.

My DH drinks MrsR but he's a very moderate drinker. He polices himself. He cuts back so if he's drunk more than two glasses one night, he'll have less the next night. Strangely he was AF yesterday which is very unusual. I think it was because he had a bit of a migraine in the day but it might have been something to do with the AFD pubclicity.

Mari, I know its a bit trite and predicatable but you have no choice but to put last night behind you and use your bad feelings today to motivate you to do better. Beating yourself up will do no good at all, just wrestle control back to yourself. Good luck for tonight, every AFD counts!!

I was AF last night. Won't be tonight but will be moderate as planned. I was saying the other day that I no longer want wine if it's not a decent one. I used to be happy with Asda's 3 for £10 but no longer. I noticed yesterday that in stocking up after Christmas (that's the supermarkets not me!!:D) all the £5ish reds I quite liked in Asda were now closer to £7 and the white I like was almost £10:eek: Another good reason for AFDs.

That's 5 AFDs for January and 1 for the SNC thanks.
  • Mrs R my OH is a very heavy drinker - probably why we found each other :o. He's a nice drunk though and works incredibly hard in a very high stress job. It's one of the reasons he drinks (maybe just an excuse), to wind down and stop his head from thinking.
We always drank together and it just seemed 'normal' - although we've always been aware that we drink too much.
For me - my decision to stop drinking was about me and me only. My OH buys all the alcohol - so there's no real financial incentive for me to stop (it does mean more money goes into the mortgage at the end of the month). I did it for my children and for myself.
I have to say - I feel a million times better without it :)

I think with heavy drinkers that ultimately they'll only do something about it when they're ready - I do know that my drive to drink was incredible and that whatever anybody might have said to me it would do no good at all - sink a few glasses and nothing mattered anymore.....

Mari begin again today :) that's all we can do....

Cleggie - hope you're feeling better soon :)

Had an AF night last night (Monday) after drinking, Fri, sat and sun. Didn't drink very much but still felt rotten for it and didn't sleep very well sunday night - suspect the alcohol was to blame. Had a lovely AF sleep last night :j

So aiming to stay AF tonight as well so thats a total of 7 for me shaggy and 2 nights towards SNC - aiming for 4 snc this week :j

    Another AF please shaggy!
Feeling really good about this now! :)
  • Mari~I think most of us can relate to that sinking feeling. I rarely go more than 3 days without a drink. Boredom has a lot to do with my drinking.

Well, the bells are clanging away but I'm not giving in tonight. I'm off to clean the kitchen, get kids to bed, watch The Bake Off and go to bed to continue with my book.

I've been allowing myself a few biscuits in the evening to compensate for no wine. Feels like a treat because I don't normally eat sweet stuff in the evening :D If I manage to get to Friday I'm going to buy myself a HUGE bag of peanut MM's!!
