2 nights down for the SNC, 2 to go, this eve was really easy, the thought didn't even cross my mind, too busy with other stuff. Hope it continues as I usually get a few thoughts that I need to correct!

13 AFD's for December please, unlucky for some maybe, but I have nothing else to go wrong that really matters and maybe some reverse psychology will work.
Live for the moment and plan for the future

Congratulations on your decision to stop!

My decision was based around all those reasons plus the additional ones of having to do the round of apologies by 'phone in the morning or logging into Facebook to do deletions and apologies! Funny when drunk is not necessarily still funny in the morning!

Thanks also stupotstu, I can really relate to your post. I am the queen of the morning after apology, usually when I've said many things I wholeheartedly regret. Most of the time I'm not even funny, just either a liability or really morose. But hey, not anymore. I've got my first big challenge on Friday as I'm going out to a club where I'd usually drink heavily so staying sober will be difficult. If I can make it through, I'll know my resolve is sticking around.

And on that note... I'm going for 31 AF days in December. My family are all big drinkers so this is one hell of a challenge! :D

Well friends I have not been on here for 3 weeks, working away in Italy & managed 4 AFDs in 10 days. My wife rings me up when she is drunk & spits abuse at me. Came back, a little stressed, the abuse continued, (it has gone on for years, I have had a broken rib, hair ripped out, hit on the head with a stiletto heel etc. ) I have been working from home, would start drinking early in the day, (one day even I went to the shop at 06.05am, & had had 3 cans of Stella before she got up, Not Good!). Had a few late nights, secretly drinking once she was asleep. I went to a few AA meetings, things came to a head where I left to get away from her, because she had physically attacked me again, spent 4 nights in hotels in the area I live. Came back for 2 nights (AFD) I am now working in Belgium for 4 days. Had a drink first day, but none today. I went to an AA meeting last night, & had a realisation that part of the problem is living another heavy drinker, they threaten one's sobriety. So my fellow friends have decided to move out permanently! I did it before & did not have a drink for 3 months, but she asked me back & I went. But I am not going back this time, Wish me Luck

    Thanks guys & girls !

I will let you into a secret ....

When I decided to go TT, I had to find something to convince me that it was in my best interests to stop .... and I did.

I am type 2 diabetic, and the alcohol was having a negative effect on my blood sugar control because alcohol is :

    1) Has sugar, which makes my pancreas work harder (and it was struggling before hand ) and
    2) It was putting weight on me , and as I was built for comfort NOT for speed beforehand, that wasnt good for me.

As a result of going TT, I have

    1) Lost weight (not sure how much but friends have commented) and
    2) My Blood sugar control has improved

But most importantly I now feel great all the time and WANT to do things at weekends (which was when I used to drink) and I now wake up @ the weekends feeling good.

7th Dec is my team Xmas meal and all I will be drinking is diet coke !.

I would hope that those of you who are d/w with your alcohol problems take my story as an inspiration that it CAN be done !.

And one last point, since I went AF on 16th October 2011, I have NOT been tempted AT ALL to have a drink !
(Strange when I used to neck 12 litres of Belgian Stella a weekend previously).

Good luck & I hope you all have a great Christmas (AF or not).

What do we do when we fall? We get up, dust ourselves off and start walking in the right direction again. Perhaps when we fall, it is easy to forget there are people along the way who help us stand and walk with us as we get back on track.

Openscreen, you've removed yourself from physical and mental danger, and from the probable root of your need to drink in order to cope with that danger. Good luck, and hugs for you.
