I'm right with you there beckseven and fakeplastictwee - my DH drinks every day and I was just thinking how much I wished we didn't have wine in the house but that won't happen. He likes plenty of booze in or he panics.

I could have written this. My DH is a VERY heavy drinker, in fact let's not mince words he is an alcoholic. We have to always have wine and spirits in the house because he could not face running out. It's very hard I know when you are trying not to drink alcohol but are surrounded by the stuff.
  • well done Cleggie!

I'm getting tempted to drink a rather large amount now. DH has been an a** all day. hes in a mood cz when he's on his playstation i have better things to do than sit there watching him play video games all day.

also we were going to have fish pie for tea, then i realised pastry is 23 1/2 syns on slimming world so i said i can't have pastry and he's completely gone off on one. he then realised he'd forgot all the ingredients to the one he wanted to make and the SW one doesn't have cream in it and his exact words were "I'm all for this slimming world but not when its just being ridiculous". tbh, any healthy eating regime will tell you cream and pastry prob aren't the best things to eat if you want to loose weight  he was stomping round saying we may as well just bin everything. I've made it and done what i can but he's sat there moping round.

its like whatever i try and do to better myself, he's just completely against atm. he went off on one when i refused to drink alcohol last night then refused to spend all evening watching him drink.

You have my sympathies evilsquid :(. The reason I haven't been around for a few days is that I have been having a bit of a 'domestic'; my OH has been a complete pig (and I guess I haven't responded too well so have been a bit of a mare myself :o). Sometimes (and the last few days have been such a time) when he's drunk he is just so unpleasant and verbally aggressive. He says horrible things about friends and family members (thank God they haven't heard them). Most of the time he's a lovely man but the evil alcohol changes him.

Bearacus could I go for the full monty Mon - Thurs on the SNC please? I feel that I have lost my way a bit over Dec and early Jan and want to get back on track.
Have read back over the last few day's posts and I'm struck by how powerful some are and I'm grateful to those people who have admitted their addiction and done something about it for their wise words. Thank you, you are all helping me so much. x
  • 8 AFDs please Shaggy - declaring now as need an early night for an early work start tomorrow......
Congrats to everyone who survived the weekend in their own way. I find they're always the toughest part of the week, but its encouraging to come on here and know you're not going through it alone.
    Have a good week all,

I can't imagine what it must be like to be living with a heavy drinker whilst trying to cut down/give up.

All of my ex partners were heavy drinkers. A moderate drinker probably wouldn't of found either me or them attractive. Like attracts like, in my experience at least. In my days of drinking ALL my friends drank a lot, those who didn't drink (to excess)fell by the wayside over the years as either i found them dull and boring or more likely they found me a drunk liability.

Of all my heavy drinking friends I think I still have two. I avoided them for a while when I stopped, but now I can be with them when they drink. When you don't drink it is amazing to realise that LOADS of people either don't drink or drink occassionally.

Two things this weekend reminded me why I don't want to drink.

On Saturday I had to go to hospital, out of hours doc, MAJOR toothache. In the waiting room was a sad, sorry man. Head in hands, stinking of booze, barely coherent with a smashed up hand presumably from punching someone or something. He ended up puking into one of thos paper bowls. It was about 3 in the afternoon.

Today I had a long dog walk. I work in schools and saw a couple of kids who are in care out with their foster family. Having a great time. Yep you guessed they were taken from mum because among other things her drinking.

Thank God I stopped when I did.

  • It's interesting reading all your stories. Even though I probably still drink a bit too much and cave in when I shouldn't, I'm glad that I've come to realise how bad it can be before I've properly settled down. Luckily I'm still in my 20s, living with my bf in a rented house and only have 2 cats relying on me. Maybe it's just part of my growing up process?

i think alcohol changes us all! i hope everything is ok now.

can i have one more AFD please Shaggy. I'm off to the gym tomorrow so I'm not drinking as a run will be bad enough without adding a hangover to it.
  • Today was my planned drinking day, and I have, but very very moderately. 2 small (125ml) glasses of red wine over a couple of hours this afternoon, and 2 bottles of beer this evening. Enough to feel the effects slightly but nothing like drunk. And I'm prepared to stop now. Shame I won't hit my target this month now but I am going to try a lot harder over the next couple of weeks. If I have drinking days when I shouldn't, then I'm not going to feel terrible if I control how much I drink on those days. My ultimate aim is to drink and not let it affect other areas of my life. My ultimate aim is NO HANGOVERS, and boy do I get them easily.

I'd like to do the full monty on the SNC this week please bearacus x

Oh yes, and today's good news, is that today I recieved a cheque which will pay off the last of my overdraft, so when I've paid that in, it clears, and I cancel my overdraft facility, I'll be debt free. :) Don't want to shout about it too much though.
