  • Welcome back Mari and bigdrinker :) Mari I think you might've been around the first time I came here until I disappeared.
  • Good morning all and a MASSIVE WELL DONE to everyone - especially everyone who managed their first AF Friday night in xxxxx (fill in your own date).

I had a good evening - decided to take all your pampering ideas and ran a bath. Now I don't like baths - GASP - and I've just found out why! Normally I've had a couple of glasses of wine early on then gone for a bath and felt sick and fainty so I've always said I hate baths and had showers in the morning instead. Revelation - big bath, Christmassy smellies, no booze - Lovely. I feel like a story my grandaughter loves - Bears Can't Swim where the bear says he can't swim till he falls in the water then he LOVES it.

And there's more! - while the bath was running (the water pressure is very slow up here) I tipped out 2 shelves in my wardrobe. De-cluttering - it's the new rock 'n' roll. RESULT - Gone - the size 8 jeans I wore ONCE and that was when I was scrawny with grief when my dad died. Gone - the hideous sun dress that looks like bathroom curtains - what was I thinking and Gone - the dusky pink knee length skirt that MIGHT look good on a willowy 5'10" but on a stocky 5'2" PURLEESE. Oh and a whole load of junk as well. Charity shop here I come.
  • This group is just quite simply the most beautiful, amazing, positive group - I am so thankful I found you.

There's been a couple of posters in the last week who seem to have looked through the door hesitantly and retreated - I did that so many times, not feeling that I could join in......
The positivity of this group comes from taking negatives and making them into positives....surrounding people with friendship and hope and knowing that even though your problems may not just dissolve, you will feel better about them if others walk with you.

I feel inspired every day just from coming on here and reading.....

Please could I have another AFD shaggy.

Hope you all had a great evening either cutting down or AF - and for those that did neither, ((hugs)) today is a new day.
There seems to be so many people doing so well :T
  • one more AFD for me please Shaggy!

i hung out in bed and read magazines in the end. now I'm not spending on booze i'll have more money to treat myself with :)

This is something I'm looking forward to, (not been paid yet). The trick is to rewire my brain into thinking a trip to the pub is NOT a treat!

4 AFDS for me please shaggy and finished up with 3 for the snc please bearacus. Well done everyone who was af last night. I wasn't and drank 3 glasses of wine and 3 bottles of beer last night-I feel awful this morning and my skin is grey and I feel bloated and I stuffed crackers and stilton down which isn't on my diet. I'm disappointed with myself-will aim to be af tonight-think dh is going out tonight so will be easy if he is. He drinks far to much too and sometimes it's easier for me to join him in drinking because I get really irritated if he is drunk and i'm not!

  • I find it hard to stay AF when my OH is on the booze too. He's really good at abstaining a lot of the time so when he says "sod it, it's the weekend", I think... well if even he is having a drink then I can justify it. Good luck tonight beckseven!

I'm right with you there beckseven and fakeplastictwee - my DH drinks every day and I was just thinking how much I wished we didn't have wine in the house but that won't happen. He likes plenty of booze in or he panics.

    4 please, Shaggy, thanks!

Keep up the good work everybody! I caved in last night and had half a bottle of Muscadet with DH when he got home after being away all week. But it was just very pleasant to sit and chat and drink sensibly. I certainly felt like opening another, but was very strong and resisted!
