    Hello all,

I really need help, as after a fairly successful couple of years when I managed to get down to (and stay at) around 80 Kg now my weight is creeping back. At 80 Kg I was not slim by any means, my real goal is 70, but was managing ok.

I lost more than 10 Kg doing low carb, but I am soooo fed up with it, I have hit the carbs, and more specifically the sugary stuff, with a vengeance.

I would love to be able to eat moderately low carb, but with a bit of whole grain and pulses thrown in, not too fat and not too much cheese, no meat, lots of veg. Is there a plan I can follow that fits these criteria?

I need to tackle sugar addiction and I know that I need to avoid alcohol as it sends me in a sugar binge frenzy (read: slices of old Christmas marzipan!).

I am exercising at least 3 times per week so that is not a problem, but the eating (and bad body image that goes with it) is getting me down, bouncing from one "latest" fad diet to another and starting getting desperate.

Yesterday I weighed 83.5 Kg, not going on scales today after last night sugar and pasta binge, but would love to go under 80 Kg for Christmas, say, just to have a deadline.

Any help and support gratefully received. Thank you.
Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).

    Hello,

I intend to do it by eating well and doing regular exercise. I intend to do 3/4 classes a week in my gym (a mixture of body attack, body pump, body combat and body balance). I intend to weigh myself once a week.

Wow Lisa Jane, with everything you do I think it will be you giving us advice! :)
You seem to have plenty of discipline, and I'm sure if you apply that to the food as well as the exercise you'll do well losing.

(You sound a lot younger than me, but have you ever had trouble with shin splints? and any tips on how to ease the pain, I just can't get rid!)

    Hi Caterina!
Most of us on this thread don't follow a particular diet, we're more aiming for a way of eating we can keep up for ever, so just ordinary cooking in moderation.

Re low carb...I've just finished reading a book called "Neris and India's Idiot proof Diet" by India Knight and Neris Thomas, and it is a low carb diet they did, strict at first, a bit more relaxed further on...is that the kind of thing you mean?
Note: I only read it, I'm not going to follow it (it was a freebie)...I'm far too lazy when it comes to cooking to have someone tell me what I can eat :)

Sugar addiction's hard, I don't know any way of beating it apart from going cold turkey and just doing it. I was fairly addicted to chocolate, and stopped eating it last January...I had a huge setback at the beginning of summer when I gave in...it sucks you right back in again! I forced myself to stop again in July.

If you sign up to our challenge it could give you the incentive to do it :)

I enjoy the exercise, so it's not a problem...my main issue is my addiction to crisps! I wrote that big ranty post about how amazing I was going to be and I ended up having 3 bags of crisps yesterday!! Going to start again today and see how I get on. Will update to let you all know. Hopefully you can act as my conscience!

I am 30, so I'm not that young! I have never really experienced shin splints I'm afraid, I've been pretty lucky injury wise, just suffering mainly from general aches and pains. The only advice I would have from my knowledge of it, is that if you are getting it, you need to rest from the activity that causes it. Things like swimming/cycling/yoga don't usually cause stress to your shins, so in this time you could be doing those things instead.

Caterina...ignore my last post, I don't think that book is for people who don't want to eat meat.

Put down the crisps Lisa Jane! :rotfl:

I think you're right re the shin splints...the only exercise I do is walking, and I had a long enforced rest recently, months and months after a back injury, and it was a lot better, just didn't go away completely. Now I'm walking a little bit again, the pain has come right back...and don't get me started on the creaking knees last night when I tried to get into the bath :rotfl:

Seriously, everyone on here who's still young...
DO IT NOW...don't waste time, and end up in your 50s and still fat like me...think of all those years you have ahead when you can be slim and hopefully healthy...don't regret not taking action sooner...

    Lecture over :rotfl:

Ellie99 actually funny enough that WAS the book I used to lose weight, I overdid it on fish eggs and cheese to avoid meat, but it worked! I found the advice and the "headstuff" very useful.

But one can eat low carb just for so long, and you know what the book says, it works first, second time, but not forever stopping and starting and I have stopped and started it a few times!

I am going to eat sensibly and will post my days' menus here.

    Morning everyone :)

Welcome to the thread Caterina. I hope you find a plan that works for you - good luck!

I've decided to post my daily menu at the end of each day rather than the beginning as I always end up changing my mind!

Feeling quite pleased that I walked three miles yesterday - the first time in months. I want to do that again today.

I hope you all have a great day :)

  • [A] I plan to post mine at the end of the day too but less because I change my mind and more because my snacking is out of control! If I do it during the day, I am lying to everyone!!

    Hello,

I have been trawling the boards to find the right place to post this...I am hoping this one is ok, if not, please advise! I previously tracked weight loss in the weight loss for wedding thread, but as my wedding is over I need somewhere new!

Here is my story...I had never really worried about weight until I found my wedding dress. I was determined to look good in it...therefore between Christmas 2011 and my wedding in August 2012, I managed to get myself down from about 10 1/2 stone to 9 stone 6 pounds through an improved diet and regular exercise.

My first year of marriage has been mad...work has been busy, I have been studying and I have trained for and run a full marathon and a half marathon. During training I have eaten whatever I have wanted, as I figured I deserved it because I have been burning so many calories!! However, my eating has really gotten out of hand! My exercise regime has consisted of mainly running (which I am certain that my body has become so used to, that it no longer helps with weight loss!) As a result I have put on around 19 pounds.

I completed the half marathon on Sunday there, and am now keen to get started with losing some weight again...and aim to lose around 14 pounds between now and Christmas as I feel that this is a realistic goal.

I intend to do it by eating well and doing regular exercise. I intend to do 3/4 classes a week in my gym (a mixture of body attack, body pump, body combat and body balance). I intend to weigh myself once a week.

I intend to keep a food diary. So I am starting today...

    B: Muesli
L: Smoked salmon and cucumber sandwich, banana, apple and low fat yogurt
D: Sausage and brocolli pasta bake

Snacks: cereal bar, perhaps some nuts??

    Would love any tips/advice/encouragement! HELP!!

Congratulations on being wed AND on the marathon running :j, you are in the right place here (we are a nice friendly bunch [STRIKE]of nutters[/STRIKE]:D) and you are just in time for the next challenge (should you choose to accept it :rotfl:), this one is running from Saturday (eeep! two more days! and will finish just before Yule/Christmas/Hanukah), if you want to be included just let me know and I will add you to the list.
    Must use my stash up!

Hi Caterina, re a food plan the best I can think is Rations! Lots of veggies/pulses/potatoes/wholemeal bread and limited fat and sugar :o

Do you want to join in the challenge?

  • Hi Folks and welcome to the new starts.

Roll on Monday when I can finally get to the dentist – woke up this morning to find a huge “plook”…zit…abscess thingy on my gum :eek: – a double header no less – apologies if thats TMI, all my healthy eating must be bringing out the toxins in my body – just wish it wasn’t in my mouth :rotfl:

Yesterday went according to plan and I am still managing to eat out of the freezer/store cupboard without getting too bored.

    B – yoghurt & stewed apples
    L – butternut squash soup, crackers x 2
D “Sausage Surprise” = sausage & veg casserole, broccoli, carrots & sweetcorn
    S = orange, 1 (2x2inch) choc & 0valtine brownie (naughty but I did have visitors)

Today is a use up leftovers kinda day =
    B – boiled egg, oatcake.
    L – l/o sardines on toast, tomato.
D – l/o kidney bean falafel, tzatziki, pitta & salad.
Snacks – none so far but an apple & kiwi on stand-by just in case.

Dinner - will be late, friend arriving about 2.30pm, then chilli and sweet jackets. Now I'm copying you N2BT, but yesterday was just a trial run to make sure the chilli wasn't too hot/mild ;)
