Sorry to hear that you and your family are going through the mill at the moment OG, can you ask for a 2nd opinion as to your ILs needing to go into a home (horrible though that idea is, if they need that then they need it).

Honestly, Knit Witch... The warden, the carers, and 2 doctors all say that they are an accident just waiting to happen... When the social work department as them if they will go into care .. they reply,'yes... but that is just to get rid of the social worker... because they say 'no' 2 minutes later... and they cannot force them into a home unless they are legally doolally...

Their medicines are locked away so that only the carers can give them it.... but when beloved went to make tea, he found a box of cocodamol... Now, how did they get the pills ??? They can't go out and the people I arranged to do their shopping would certainly not get them any medicine...

OG, when my aunt came home from hospital, they arranged for her to have frozen ready meals delivered free for a few weeks...now she pays for them (she wasn't recovered enough to cook). Would your in laws eat those? I feel bad even saying it, especially after reading the lovely things you cook from scratch, but if it's too hard for them to cook now, maybe needs must?

Hi Ellie, I've got the magazines in front of me.. They deliver a week's worth of frozen meals which they put into their freezer.. and then the ILS are arranging a carer to go in and see to the meals every day.. The warden has arranged for the electric cooker to be totally disconnected, so that she can't fall into the oven or set fire to their little home... but these meals (oakhouse) are microwavable... These were recommended by the warden as they are not eating the meals on wheels.. They pay for the Meals on Wheels but I'd rather they paid for meals that they weren't going to turf !!! I've also arranged for a lady to do their laundry, shopping and cleaning... as I feel that is what their money is for... It's just accumulating in their current account so I would rather spend it on their behalf to make their lives easier.... although I could empty the bank account and come and visit you lot !!!!

I think what will happen is that when the ILS (Independent Living Service) costs more than putting them in a home, that's when something will be done... At the moment, it is cheaper caring for them in their own home... Although no-one will admit that...

Anyway, my mother and kittens are needing fed... so I am off upstairs... I know you are all jealous... They are gorgeous little bundles of fun.. I have my curtains tied up.. They are very clean except one ... There is always one !!!! He likes peeing on plastic and this morning, he peed on top of the little igloo bed... but he'll get the hang of it.. You should see them chasing each other around... and battling like the bars of hell... and the mother just watches.. she knows that they have to learn to defend themselves !!! She also gives them a thump when they are out of order... so there you go....

Were they able to tell you WHY they were throwing out the meals on wheels? Just thinking...meals on wheels are usually better than frozen ready meals...but then the people who deliver them haven't time to stay and see if you eat the meal...will the ILS stay and see they eat? I know they hung around my aunts at lunchtime, that must have been the time that was allocated to her?

    Evening All

Not a very energetic or productive day for me today, having caught up on my outdoorsy chores earlier in the week, me and my best (cupboard love) buddy had a very relaxing lazy day – he catnapping on the table whilst I surfed the net.

I did however make a pot of what can only be called “green soup” apart from the onion, everything in the fridge, freezer, and garden that was green (in colour – not mouldy :rotfl:) and needing to be used up went in – peas, broad beans, spinach, watercress, rocket, parsley and mint. Turned out not a particularly appetising colour but smelt and tasted.…..YUMMY.

B – hm Cheese Scone scrapping of butter, tomato & cucumber slices
L – Green Soup, cream crackers x 2 and an apple
    D – L/O Vegetarian Moussaka, mixed salad
    S – digestives x 2, cucumber & tomato slices

Have been going through all my reciepe books to try and get ideas for a lower carb way of eating

Savessummore I find the bbcgoodfood website great for ideas especially as you can "filter" for healthy/low fat/low carb recipes :T

That's what we are waiting for... That someone will be allocated the time to make sure they eat the meals.. No, they don't admit to throwing them out... It wasn't them, it was someone else's. The warden is popping in as often as she can, but it isn't really her responsibility and we live too far away... but, hopefully, it will get resolved soon...

It's all doing wonders for my food intake though... By the time I finish making all the phone calls, the day has just flashed by....

Sorry went AWOL yesterday, silly bellows playing up again.
    Welcome newbies :)
OG the meal delivery service my DM had after her coronary is super, they do small portions as she's got the appetite of a bird they suited well. (She's back to cooking for herself now, amazing when three months ago they had to use the paddles on her to bring her back!) I hope they soon get sorted out and some of the worry is taken from you

    Yesterday
    B - missed
    L - bap with cheese & pickle
    D - bap with marmalade
    S - melon, grapes, orange
    E - none

    Today
    B - missed
L - restaurant parmigiana di melanzane. Disappointed, it was chopped up like baby food and served with penne in a cast iron bowl. I know they try to be authentic but whenever I've been to Italy they served the food on proper plates!
    T - crackerbread 1x cheese/tomato, 1x peanut butter, 1x marmalade
    S - orange
E - none to speak of, drove to DM's, did her shopping, drove home again - 180m round trip.

    Sweet dreams :)

Steak was gorgeous and I had a treat of a tiny bit of stilton melted on the top as i had been so virtuous all week :):)I also had a huge salad with it and a yoghurt for pud so I am feeling a bit stuffed at the moment .Is it right that sweet potato's are healthier for you than ordinary ones ? some one was talking about them in the greengrocers today when I went to but some bananas.I love SP as I can eat them without any filling I just wondered if they were lower in calories or something
