We all seem to be struggling this week. They said on the news that this is the time when motivation is low - I think it has something to do with the time of the year. Can we think of any strategies that might help us through?
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Hello all and welcome to fellow newbies:wave:

I'm feeling very woolly headed at the moment as I've had a stinking cold over the weekend and my exercising has gone to pot. Muttly and I walked almost 26 miles last week according to DH's mapping software and I was hoping to keep up the memento. Instead I whimped out in favour of the duvet and hot cups of tea while DH took the poor dog on very brief outings. Just prior to this I'd bet my DH (thanks to a daily challenge I'd signed up to on Channel 4's revolution) that I will lose 7lbs by the end of February. Now with all the energy of a slug that is going to be quite a challenge and I really fancy the strange blue 'thing' I've seen in a garden centre to put in the huge plant pot in the porch. Can't remember if it was like a butterfly or a bird, but it made me smile so I've set it as my goal.

So today was my first day back walking and we did a couple of miles in the sun, but it was very cold. We've had no snow here only rain, so no change there.

Really glad to here that the weekends away were a great success :T.

Since DH and I have started trying to lose weight we have been taking recipe portions at there word, so if it says 4 we make it last 2 days where as before it would last once with a little left over for my lunch the next day. I completely agree with everything you have all said about doing what works best for you. Some find it works best if they are in a group while others like myself find I start to get paranoid about food and it takes over my life. I also feel very lonely in groups which doesn't help with my self confidence which has a knock on effect with binge eating. No I'm not going there again - it's all in the past - and I've moved on to a healthier relationship with food. Also I object to parting with our hard earned cash and refuse to eat synthetic rubbish just because it has a few less calories.

Sorry folks if that reads like a bit of a rant. Going to look up what I can do with yellow split peas in a soup. I think I bought them thinking they were lentils for a carrot and coriander soup. Me thinks the little grey cells could do with more fish :D.

Hmmm haven't seen it anywhere but have read about it. I bought 25 Earl Grey black tea to try with some lemon today so will see how that goes.
Thanks and if you know where to get some , let me know ;)

It's usually near the Green Tea in the supermarket. Have found it at Mr A, Mr T and Mr S :)

Have you tried redbush/rooibos? It's similar to black tea but quite sweet.

Hi, nope haven't tried those but if I don't like the others I will give them a go too thanks :)

    Evening All

I've had a very busy day with exercise class, work and looking after DGD so am enjoying a sit down and trying to ignore the 15 shirts I have to iron for DS (he does pay me to do them!).

B: Poached egg on toast. Slice of toast with jam and butter
L: Lambs liver, spinach, green beans and mushrooms.
T: Tomato soup with HM bread. Raspberries with Greek yoghurt
    Snack: 1/2 butterfly bun.

Exercise: 1.5 hours exercise class (circuits, weights, cardio, core). 2 miles walking. Lots of chasing DGD making her teddy run after her.

  • Hello everyone :)

Breakfast - bran flakes and skimmed milk
Lunch - tuna salad bagel, fruit rolls, humous & veg sticks
    Snack - cereal bar
Tea - toasted bagel and cup of tea

Done well at not picking, but didn't have a proper tea as my OH was out and I am tired - going to have salmon tomorrow night for a proper meal :)

I would love to join this group. I really need to lose a stone and a half (2 stone preferably, but a smaller initial target would be ok.)-I have never been this heavy, even when I was pregnant! I had surgery for cancer, lost a lot of weight after that but then because I had my colon removed and had a stoma for a while, I had to completely change my favoured diet which used to be high on veg and salad. Since then I have had the stoma put back, but I have an internal pouch (sorry for TMI!) and I still can't eat veg and only pur!ed fruit (Just a little of that.) As a result I have put on weight eating a lot of carbs. I am always hungry as I can't fill up on veg any more :(

I tried visiting a SW meeting and talking to the leader but she admitted that my restrictive diet would make it difficult, especially as I don't eat meat. So I limp along trying to cut calories where I can, am not really well enough to do a lot exercise yet either. Obviously I am glad to be still alive, lol, but I really hate what I see in the mirror at the moment.

I am going to carry on reading the thread and seeing if I can motivate myself to do something serious this time! Being overweight increases my chance of recurrence of cancer, and I have 3 kids to worry about, that SHOULD be motivation enough-except I am always flipping hungry! Maybe I should start with a small goal-say half a stone?
Tomorrow is always fresh, with no mistakes in it!
  • Well I didn't post my weight on Friday as I decided to give up. I had gained weight and was extremely demotivated. I decided to quietly go on my way and forget this thread forever.

However, I had subscribed and carried on reading each morning. Thus morning I read ragz post and it really struck a chord (thanks ragz) and here I am with renewed motivation. I am not officially posting my weight - will leave it as it stands - but I am determined to carry on. Thanks also to everyone else whose stories also helped me decide to keep going.

Hmmmm........nope! :D Well, someone could tie my hands up and tape up my mouth for a few days, that might do it :rotfl:Failing that, a magic wand, anyone?

Seriously, though, it's such a tough time of year to struggle through and so easy to cover the flab with a large jumper. Come March when I hear the birds sing, and I can drive home with even 5 mins of daylight before being plunged into darkness again, then my thoughts turn to wearing summer skirts & tops...and that's when I'll feel motivated again. Until then, it's just a hard slog for me.

One strategy I may try if you don't mind, is logging on and posting before I eat any snacks...that way, I might not need/want them by the time I'm finished. That might work...

    xx
