I weighed myself on Friday evening and was pleased to see I was a pound down. However, I have also been away for a long weekend and had lots of treats; seems 3/4 of it went back on so I'll declare STS and try super harder to shft it by this Friday.Mortgage

Good morning ladies. I am a poorly soldier today. Woke up with a raging sore throat and headache so off work and in bed watching gossip girl.
B : just a cup of tea
L: prawn salad sandwich already made up in the fridge so will try and eat that.we'll see how it goes - maybe just soup.
Had great aspirations for the gym this week so not the best start.
Still feeling positive this week though. It's strange how my motivation has changed - before this challenge if I'd had a bad weekend I'd probably just have given up. Now I just think oh well, I'll do better next week. It's amazing how having a support network really focuses you. xxx0 -
Daska - I have being low carbing myself recently, I think in general we eat far too much sugar and bread and a lot of us to have carb addictions and insulin resistance. I see no problem with incorporating low carb in Old Style, as long as you don't go crazy with it. Atkins and south beach etc are all extreme diets designed to get you to lose a lot of weight quickly, when I say low carb I just mean cutting down on sugar and not having as much bread/pasta as I used to. Not cutting out fruit, some veg etc just because they are quite high GI (that's only really important if you are diabetic or in need of severely controlling you insulin levels).
What most people forget is that SUGAR = CARBS. Low carbing for me is more about having less sugar, because I want to break my dependence on it. Things like bread and pasta raise your blood sugar so cause sugar cravings - that doesn't mean you need to cut them out completely, just have them in moderation and combine them with protein/fibre to dampen the effects of the sugars.
Please don't feel you are not welcome here just because you have a different approach, some people are doing 'low fat', some are doing 'calorie counting', some are really focusing on smaller portions... we all have the same goals and these differences just bring more tips and experience to share and benefit the rest of us.
JBD rightly points out that there are threads on this forum specifically for WW and SW (and if you are doing those that's where you will get the best support), Fad/Crash diets are not old style as you can't follow them forever and they don't teach you about healthy eating... but for the rest of us, I think our diversity and different approaches is our strength as we are all learning from each other. There is no RIGHT way to do this, just the way that works for you...
Thank you Ragz. Just to be clear, as stated in my first post I'm very high risk for diabetes (I was on very high dose of insulin with DS2, enough that the nurse was surprised when my blood sugars when back within normal range after he was born), in fact what has prompted my going back to low carbing and making a real effort with my weight was that a couple of weeks ago I had what appears to have been a hypo - first one I've ever had other than when pregnant. It was scary.
I'm not actually following Atkins, I'm including far more carbs than he would have recommended, certainly for induction and the first couple of levels. And my problem with the Low Carb thread is exactly what you identified as an issue you had with WW - lots of artificial foodstuffs to replace all those sweet treats, I haven't willingly ingested an artificial sweetener/colour since I was in my early teens for the simple reason that they can cause at best nausea or at worst a 3 day migraine. I need to relearn how to eat without the 'sweet' for my health's sake because that will reduce the temptation to indulge in the high carb cakes, biscuits, pasta and rice dishes that will send my blood sugars out of control and there's temptation enough at home without reading about people gobbling jelly or cakes or tiramisu and other things I crave which made with things that will make me ill. We also have a problem in our family with the deadly nightshade family (which includes things like potatos, tomatos, aubergine). And then of course, like anyone else, there are foods I really dislike such as sweet potato - it may be good for me but yeuch! So by the time I've cut out the sugar and grains and the ones that cause other health/digestion problems I have a much smaller foodgroup to choose from. And then, to top it all I have a four year old thrillseeker (hyposensitive for vestibular/proprioception for those of you who know what I'm talking about) who needs a huge amount of calories in order to satisfy his sensory needs. So all in all I would say that what I'm doing is not faddy, it's based on my health needs, it's informed and it fits the lifestyle my son and I need to live. Funnily enough I've weighed myself this morning and it's still just the 3lb (water) I've lost but my belt is 2" tighter. So it would seem that I'm getting the balance right for losing the weight slowly.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Afternoon All,
Doesn’t that list look pretty with all those Smiley Faces (thanks Ragz)
I know this is an individual challenge but Dragoncry, Soupdragon10, & Pigsmayfly – into double figures - WELL DONE – I need some of what you are on :T
I was having a finger-numbing rummage in my freezer on Saturday reorganising it and bringing the stuff that had been in there the longest to the front (what an exciting life I lead – no weekends away for me) so have enough cooked and portioned meals to keep me going for a couple of weeks, which is good but could end up being quite monotonous, I never seem to get around to labelling things.
Today’s menu is
B – Toast & jam
L – Soup? – could be Green Lentil/Pea or Mung Bean.
D – Last of the Baked Gammon, baby pots & mixed veg.
Haven’t had potatoes for about 2-3 weeks, but couldn’t resist these little ones at @ldi, so they better be nice!!Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

Afternoon
Last week of school and the snow is melting as it's raining today.
Breakfast: F&F + ss milk
Lunch: Ham and egg spaghetti, 2 small choc/coconut biscuits
Dinner: cupasoup
Drinks: Tea + milk no sugar (tastes like dishwater ewww) , water
Thought I would try some tea today but usually have 1 sugar. Will take me a while to get used to it but it's meant to be good for your arteries etc if you drink 3 cups a day. Might have to find a tastier brand.
Have a lovely day

I gave up taking sugar in my tea back in the 70's when Anita Harris did an advert which stated - if you took 2 spoons of sugar in your tea x 6 cups per day, over the week it was equivalent to something like 20 slices of toast or 1lb of chocolates, etc, etc.
However I didn't like the taste of my tea with just the milk in it so gave that up as well. Now I prefer a weaker cup of tea (dont like the strong tannin taste or the effect it has on my teeth) just as it comes out of the pot, nice with a slice of lemon though.Jan - June Grocery spends = £531.61

It is that time just now, my body is all over the place so not even going to declare anything this week as according to the scales I have put on 4lb but I know that is just water and bloating. Going out tonight for OH birthday and works xmas night out so going to enjoy it and back on the bandwagon tomorrow. Well done to everybody who has lost and chin up to anybody who is not happy there is always next week.
Dagoncry I don't take sugar in my coffee I don't drink normal tea but do like some herbal teas there are lots of different ones to choose from.
