    Hi All,

Sorry, I won't be able to join you with my ramblings this week as we are having problems with my elderly in-laws..

For the umpteenth time, we have tried to do the right thing, but my mother-in-law keeps having my father-in-law back. They are both in their 90's and she just can't cope with looking after him.. He is going in and out of the hospital with mini strokes and then he is refusing to allow the carers into his house so she is having to manage all on her own..

Well, on Friday, there was a disaster.. she was trying to dress him and he started to fall, so she fell as well and landed badly on the coffee table so she is pretty banged up and can hardly move.. I had to stay over as it is too difficult with my condition to go 40+ miles every day, and my father-in law is now in a respite home.. and he'll be there for the next 2 weeks.. but she is now refusing to have him back (she has said 5 times before) but as time goes on, she feels guilty and so it goes round and round again.. This time, the emphasis was on the father's well being, which is 'wanting' at the moment.. as he just won't let the carers in as he has memory problems and he thinks they are a threat..

Anyway, we found a load of medicine in a drawer - which he should have been taking hence the mini strokes... but we think it is now time that he has to go into a home.. It is really a sad time for us all... as they have been married for almost 70 years but she is so frail (but still wants her independence) she just can't manage anymore..

So, we are having to go and see social workers and the community nurses and I don't know who else ... I know that an option would be for his mum to go into the home as well but she has her older sister living next door (they are all in sheltered accommodation) and they go out galavanting together to the hairdressers and shops etc so she won't leave her...

Anyway, I hope you are all doing well and I'll get back on as soon as everything is sorted out... :)

    Hello ladies/gents, I am returned!

I think I may have gained about half a lb on honeymoon, which is not too bad...the next week and a half though I am literally going to eat anything I want - back to work on a broken foot today and as a teacher this is going to be very difficult, added to the post-wedding/honeymoon blues and settling back into normal life, we are letting ourselves have a week and a half of naughty eating before renewing the health efforts!

I still read this thread daily though and hope you are all doing well...

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

    Morning everyone.

sending (((hugs))) to officeguru, it's very difficult watching family getting older and not being able to cope on their own any more.

and more (((hugs))) for theatregirl, well done for not turning to food in frustration!

Welcome back daisiegg, love that you and hubby have decided to enjoy your first week back before you get back to dieting :)

I have been behaving myself since my bad eating weekend, trying to repair the damage.
This morning I tried on a couple of tops and a pair of jeans which fitted me until the end of 2011, in the hope it would encourage me to keep dieting. (I started putting on this weight in 2012). I think of those clothes as my "nice" clothes (with all the memories of looking nice, feeling good, feeling appreciated, and being happy), and now I just have to wear boring stuff that fits :( How life can change, eh? :rotfl:

Well, there's still quite a gap between button and buttonhole! 25 pounds of gap to be precise :rotfl: I really wanted to be wearing them by summer but maybe that's a bit optimistic!
Maybe I should hang them on the outside of my wardrobe for inspiration?

If you could live one day of your life over again, which day would you choose?
  • On Monday, I met my challenge of losing 3 stones in 3 months - in fact, I had lost 44.22lb in that time. I am continuing my challenge and hope to lose the 4th stone by half-term (as I'm going for a posh all-inclusive holiday to Marrakech with a friend for 4 days on May 30th).

Congrats on the small gain MrsDaisieegg, hope your foot isn't giving you too much trouble. Take care of yourself. :)

Officeguru hope to see you back with us soon, that sounds like a very stressful situation you are going into, and I hope you and your in laws get all the help and support they need. Will be thinking of you :)

Theatregirl sorry to hear you were unsuccessful, here's to hoping it is a sign that there is something better around the corner for you instead!

I've been having a terrible week so far, and I don't even know why it has all gone wrong! I am an emotional eater, I know this, but my naughtiness started last week with no trigger that I can identify, and has carried on through into this week. :o My parent's german shepherd had to be put to sleep on Tuesday, and I loved that dog, which was a situation that hasn't helped as when we went food shopping I used it to justify buying 2x chocolate muffins filled with fresh cream from Morrisons! I have eaten them. I'm going to a lecture/talk thing this evening for work, and it is at a local gastropub and I'm having a 3 course meal for free, which is really not going to help, then I am away over the weekend for a friend's birthday party, so all in all when Monday rolls around I am drawing a line under the last 2 weeks and starting over afresh.

I hope everyone else is doing better than me. Not looking forward to weigh in tomorrow. I can only hope my sporadic gym sessions help me to at least STS....:(
